When several electrical items ( hob, microwave, lights, TV, heater etc ) are used at the same time our electricity supply trips. We can restart it by cutting down on the number of devices in use but it is inconvenient. Can anyone advise us what causes this and how we can eliminate the problem.

Your tariff is too low. You need to get in touch with your electricity supplier to increase it. This will stop stuff tripping out, but will increase your bills by 10-15€ per month. Happens a lot in winter as people use electric heaters which use a lot of power

You may not actually need a boletin, I would ask first to see if they can raise your potencia and if not then you need an electrician to come. Be warned though that if you need to upgrade the potencia there is a good chance the original gauge wire used wont be up to it and you may need to get it rewired altogether so something that should never be an isssue to begin with may end up costing quite a bit.

Like the other responders, I assumed that it's the cutout switch (ICP) or smart meter that's tripping due to the contracted power being to low, but is that the case, John?

If it's just one circuit breaker that's tripping, then there's a different answer.

It's the cutout switch, the replies that I have received confirm what I thought.

OK, John, just wanted to make sure you weren't going to take the wrong action.

You probably have a 3.5 kw supply. Look at you electricity bill.  Microwave, lights, fridge, tv, computer, radio, hi-fi, draw very little power and will not trip out.  You need low wattage kettle say 1 to 1.2 kw. Room heaters on timer with heater thermostat 750w to 1kw.  Water heaters use lots of power.  Put a timer on water heater set for night heating say on 05.00 off 08.00. Use washing machine in afternoon on 30 - 40 deg. Use microwave rather than hob. Fan heaters work better than rads. You will soon get used to doing it. We did. If not upgrade your your supply to 6.5 kw which is bit more expensive.
