A few hours prior to flying back to the UK yesterday, we had a power cut. I received an email from Iberdrola telling me what I already knew, that they had a fault. Then half an hour before setting out for the airport I got another one saying all was back to normal. But we still didn’t have any power, so possibly the smart meter needs resetting. So we had to leave with still no supply to our property. Does anyone have a telephone number for Iberdrola where I can communicate in English. I did try several yesterday but only got recorded messages in Spanish. Thanks in advance.

This week I have had reason to contact Iberdrola regarding my gas supply.

Email in english with your electric bill details,  name, contract number, NIE,  to the following

[email protected]

They replied in english within 24hrs.

Hopefully you will get the reply you need.

Glad you were lucky, and appreciated your advice. But after sending several emails they still have not replied. I do get the automated email response confirming receipt, but never a reply. I downloaded the Iberdrola app and can see that there has been zero power consumption since 2nd October, so the power is still off!. Can write off anything in the freezer, but can live with losing two fish fingers!.

Latest update is that I downloaded the Iberdrola app and have confirmed that there has been no power consumed since we left. Therefore fair to say the power is still off, I asked our lawyer to assist and contact Iberdrola on our behalf, which prompted an email reply just saying that they could do nothing about that, and we need to be back in the property before phoning them as there are things they need me to do. I know all they are going to say is switch off the breaker, wait, switch it on again. I already did that before leaving when they said the power was restored. So going back knowing no power, and unsure when it will be restored. Not much help at all really ! I know Iberdrola can reset a smart meter remotely. Our meter is sealed in a cabinet quite far from the front door, and doesn’t have the facility for local reset, it has to be done on line.

Having the app may be helpful in future.

Unfortunately we learned about power outages in Spain the hard way.

After a couple of times arriving back to our apartment and being greeted with a mess in the freezer,  we now clean out and turn off all electrics in the kitchen when we leave.

As our appliance plugs are behind kitchen presses,  turning off electrics seems safer overall.

Thankfully a cost saver too while recently away for 18 months!

We were pleasantly surprised that the fridge/freezer was exactly as we left it with no odours or mould.  The padded seals on doors had dried a little but not perished.

Yes as you know its alright to try resetting the breaker and that can help for most appliances.

But our fridge/freezer does not automatically restart after breaker reset.

It needs to be reset manually by pressing the on/off switch near the temperature control.

I have read about new fridge/freezers that can restart after power outages.

Another thing for the wish list.  :)

Hi Maria,

Yes power outages are something we have to live with. I am not worried about the freezer contents, we leave virtually nothing in it, for obvious reasons. My concern is that I know we are returning knowing we have no power available, and uncertain how long it will take to get the power back on. I was therefore trying to get something set up, up front. But so far, the bottom line is that Iberdrola won’t do anything until we phone them “ from the apartment”. We will be arriving late at night so will have to settle for warm beer, crisps and wine by candle light. I could tell the wife it’s a specially organised romantic evening. But after 50 years married she likely won’t believe me.

Never underestimate that romantic gesture.   😊

You must be doing something right after 50 years.  Congratulations!

Good luck with the Iberdrola folk.
