Hi I am hopfully going to be in Alfas in September to find a purchase a property. I went to the Spanish consulate in London yesterday to apply for the NIE so hopfully that is sorted.  I am trying to network with estate agents so that hopefully is sorted the next 2 things are a lawyer and a notary. A facebook expats site has directed me to express legal solicitors in Alfas del pi.  I just wondered if anyone has used them and are they reliable as I am reading so much about solicitors not being good and then purchasers having to pay out lots of money because of their mistakes.  Also for a notary can anyone guide me to how I go about finding one.  I have read that it is better if lawyer and notary are independent from each other.  thankyou steph

Hi to you both, I have always had a property in Alfaz since the mid 1980's.It is a great town with excellent facilities.I live in the residential area,Alfaz & the touristy bit which has many part-time holiday home owners is Albir. When you buy a property the agent will have a Notario which they are used to dealing with,so things can proceed smoothly. There is a good Notario in Alfaz,Arabi Plaza which most of the town based agencies use. They have notorised my recently made will under the regulations of my birth country & also other items that I wanted to be recognised as legal over the years. They will make sure that you are represented by someone in your own language.I have never used an English Abogado, mine is an English speaking Spaniard,so can't help you with your query.I do have a very efficient Gestor though,in Alfaz centre, who is Norwegian(like so many here) but obviously speaks English(Spanish owned company) who does my "renta" each year & any other job needed. When I sold a property recently he arranged the certificate needed from the Hacienda to say I was a tax resident,& importantly,at a very reasonable cost.Hope this helps.

I can also recommend an excellent solicitor. Albir Abogados (Google them). Spanish but English speaking. Terrific service on 2 purchases. Maria is first point of contact and Orlando is the solicitor.  Also recommend a Notary nearby - Salvador Vidal.

You won't go wrong with either I can assure you.

Good luck, Steve
