Hi All, Although I have lived in Spain for many years,It was only after I retired that I got myself a computer,to learn something absolute new to me.Got to keep those  grey cells active! Now a few years down the line again,I have discovered this forumI live in a small apartment block in the centre of Alfaz which is excellent for me as I have everything that I need close byI don't even need a car which is an expense I can do without anyway as we have a good bus service if I need to go elsewhere, coach service to the airport & health clinic, shops & nice bars & restaurants. Before Spain entered the EU,I came with my family to operate a business It was quite different then but how nice it was once a lot of young people with their children were able to relocate here more easily. My daughter went to the local state school in Alfaz, grew up & later started her own business.Married a Spanish man & my lovely Spanish born granddaughter was born.Am looking forward to reading about others here..

Hi

My husband and l are just about to embark on our journey to retire in Spain. My house sale is almost at the end, renting for the summer months and hoping to arrive in September.

Feeling very apprehensive about the move as l have never done anything like this in my life, hope l am doing the right thing.

Any advice.

Thanks Maggie

Hi Maggie,  of course we all feel the same as you no matter what new venture we go on.Just be positive. However in my business I encountered many people who returned to UK for various reasons. There were basically 2 groups, elderly(all nationalities)who wanted"to die in their home country" & the, sorry to say,but the completely brainless who came without a job prospect,no spare cash,no language or other skills etc.etc.There will be a lot of bridges to cross because the Spanish are southern europeans,do not have the same mindset as the Anglo Saxons. The state school system is different, they eat other foods(no Sunday roasts!)the hours not the same, even changing from sterling to euros,it,s very hot often,etc.etc.In the past I had operated a successful business in UK & Scotland before coming here & repeating that.I have had a good life here, although with many, many frustrations with Spanish bureaucracy. All in all though I know which side buttered my bread.Strangely, you may think,if I had to return to UK(I have relatives in Wales,Scotland & England)I wouldn,t have a clue apart from the language where to start.Good luck & hope we can welcome you in Spain.
