My brother is considering buying a house here and will do the 90day in 90day out. He is hoping to bring his UK registered car with him each time which would mean his car would be in Spain for 180days each year BUT so far he’s only been able to find a UK insurer who will insure his car for 90days out of the UK.
What do others do who are subject to the 90day rule?

What do others do who are subject to the 90day rule?
I've just checked and my maximum is 90 days a year too, so it's probably a standard thing.
Bee's suggestion looks good, but I wonder if there might be any chance a Spanish policy might be better.
I really wouldn't know, but the point is prices are reasonable compared to the UK and a bonus is that the car is insured and not the driver.
Hence any driver over 26 will be covered, as long as they have permission.
Bee's suggestion is probably the same, but I'd definitely shop around.

It's probably 90 day fully comprehensive. You can drive the car for longer then 90 days but after that period you will only have third party insurance.
Try Aviva they do 180 day fully comp insurance.

I’m told by my broker that Company Generali who insure my car were the only ones who use to insure UK registered cars. I’m told the DVLA has banned Spanish companies from insuring UK cars, although my broker says Generali pulled out because claims were too high.

Agreed, AVIVA will cover 2 x 90 day trips per year but there may be an extra charge.

We started off driving our own car to Spain but given the costs we decided it was better to buy a Spanish registered car.

I'd suggest that's total rubbish, because the UK has absolutely no right to tell Spanish companies what they can and can't do in their own country AFAIK.
It might be so in the UK, but not in Spain.

Most Car insurance companies in UK and Ireland only cover you with Third party insurance while driving in .European countries, even if you have fully Comp. Insurance in your home country ,it is in The Insurance Company Booklet supplied with insurance policy if you ask for it when taking out new Insurance policy or check with insurance company

Well according to google AI several insurers offer EU cover for up to 180 days per policy year, including LV, Aviva, Saga. Best get in touch with them or a insurance broker in the UK and check. You should also ask about extending the cover to fully comp whilst in the EU.
