Hi, came home to find this hanging from my front door frame, does anyone know what type of insect etc has done this please?

it's the beginnings of a wasps nest, remove all of it.

Make sure you have gloves on and well wrapped up to prevent stings. it is a wasp nest. I would recomend ant powder being sprayed into the nest that will kill them and all others entering the nest before removal.

Use a carrier bag so that you don’t have to touch it
