Hi everyone
I need some unbiased advice please from people who know far more technically than me!
We have, apart from the invaluable iPads, an old PC running W7 which we used for our business. This ran WordPerfect 15 Office, to which I was accustomed having used it since it’s early days. Also had an all bells and whistles Photoshop 6 for my husband's use. We also have a refurbished Toshiba laptop, effectively duplicating the PC, which I bought to use in the interim before removers arrived to tie up loose ends of the business and all the usual final stuff with accountants etc.
Both of these seem to have died more or less simultaneously. The laptop is totally none responsive, even when plugged in, just black, nothing, nada. The PC attempts to heave itself into life, succeeds and two seconds later dies again. I take it there is nothing I can do to retrieve any data and that it’s not worth trying to repair them?
We kept them, albeit not used v often these days, because they were useful. I am not overthrilled at the thought of having to buy a new laptop and subscribing to new software as I understand one may not purchase it outright now? I can buy a current version of W Perfect Office at some 300 Eu which these days I neither need nor can justify, I just want their word processor! And we don’t really want to have to subscribe to Photoshop when what we had was perfectly adequate!
So I suppose what I’m asking is, can anything be done to salvage any data, are they repairable, or is it simply not worth the effort and I have to shut up and buy new?
Thanks for any thoughts and advice
