Anyone know if one may buy sugar-soap in decorator’s merchants here? Or if there is a Spanish equivalent and if so, what is it called please?

Thank you, but I am further North and also am familiar with all local merchants. My query was because it was something Ive not seen, like for example, wood knotting and primer which appears to be unknown and not used; our nearest local heavy duty paint merchants say these items are only available in huge quantities to certain professionals. My query was also if anyone knew what it would be called, direct literal translation seeming open to misunderstanding!!!

I think you can stop looking Stephanie. I have seen it here, but only at an English shop, and they're no longer in existence. If you've any visitors due out, ask them to bring some - the traditional powder form and not the made up liquids.

Thank you, Jim! I was hoping simply to wash down some wardrobe doors before changing the colour, the paintwork being perfectly good , having done it myself a while ago and not really in need of thorough rubbing down etc! Gone are the days when I am prepared to spend hours doing unnecessary labour!! Do you think a vinegar and water solution would suffice, all domestic cleaning agents usually leaving some kind of residue.

Hi Stephanie. Vinegar and water would work, as long as it's clear vinegar, although I'd personally prefer to use white spirit. If that seeps into any joints, it will dry out quicker than a water-based solution. Ammonia would do as well, if you could stand the smell, but many of the ammonia cleaners would leave a residue.

Again, thank you Jim; I had considered white spirit but had imagined that would also leave a residue? Will have a go with vinegar, although will not use my best French cider version!!!

Thank you, Vivienne. I will look into the U.K. Amazon option; the amazon.es version appears to be soap for personal use and not for cleaning paintwork!
