Hello my name is Frank and I'm new on this forum. Six months ago I have bought a house in Lo Crispin. When going to Spain ( I'm living in The Netherlands) I Always have to rent a car at Alicante airport. Though renting a car in Spain is not very expensive it takes a lot of time at the airport and returning the car is also causing discussions. That is why I consider to buy a second hand car in Spain. My problem is my inexperience with the car market in Spain. Maybe you can provide me with useful information and experiences you have with the same matter. Question I have are:

What is beter buying a car in Holland and import it in Spain or is it to be preferred to buy a car in Spain?

What is a roughly average amount of money you have t o pay on a annual basis for taxes and insurances?

Where do you find trustworthy cardealers near Queseda/ Rojales?

Can you recommend parkingfirns at Alicante airport where you park the car and make sure that the car is ready at arrivall and that they will take or collect the car at departure

What are average cost for parking the car at the airport?

Do you have other suggestions, recommendations in this field?

I'm thinging at a Ford Fiesta or a similar car 3-5- yeaurs old? In what pricerange do you have to think to buy such a car?

I'm not a permanent resident but I have a NIE-number. Iám really looking forward to your response. Please accept my apologies for my Englisch but it is not my native language

Regards,

Frank

Good morning Frank

We moved to Catral about 3 month ago and brought our Range Rover over from the UK. We needed to change her as it was going to cost a small fortune to adapt her to Spanish regulations. We were recommended to FWR Eurocars and they were marvellous. We now have a left hand drive Citroen C4. They babysat us through the insurance and any taxes needed. They car had a small niggle but they are putting it right with no fuss. Here is a link to the site http://www.fwreurocars.com/

The guys name is Frank

Good luck

Nikki

Hello Frank,

Cars tend to be dearer in spain certainly more then Uk so Iam guessing that applies to holland as well? The main reason is that the cars tend to last longer because of the climate and also they do not flood the market with ex lease cars etc like in the Uk .

In spain you have to pay a one off tax when you purchase the car which the dealer should do for you included in the screen price or if you buy privately it will be your responsibility and it varies on value of car and type/ model/ fuel etc.

Once you have purchased your car you would expect to pay around 300-500 euros for yearly insurance  but will all depend on your circumstances etc.

You then have to pay a car tax annually which varies from region to region which is payable to your local town hall/ suma and again should be around 100 euros.

Also your car once old enough will need a MOT /ITV ( car roadworthy test) every two years at a testing station.

With regards parking at the airport...there is several car park companies and some are as cheap as 300 euro per year but the cheaper ones tend to need transfers and are further away and maybe less secure? Maybe other people can help on that who use this service more?

“ Jim” a legendary member on here has a long list of very helpful posts and iam sure he will have covered what you are asking etc .Good luck with it!

Regards

BB

I have also bought a car from Frank at FWR. Good selection and brilliant service. I had to do nothing,  all done for me.

He has got my vote.

Hi Frank,

I advise you to bring and put the Spanish plate to your own car. It seems to me the cars in Spain are overpriced ,I personally do not like small size engines (I am an aircraft engineer and I know better why) and I have some doubts regarding the maintenance/service done for some of the dealer cars. I had originally the idea to buy locally but after few months of searching the car I quit. I recently bought from Germany a VW Golf TDI,140HP, 70.000km full service at VW in a new condition for 6500Euro. This kind of good offer you will never find in Spain.Pay attention to engine fitted, some of the modern car engines does not last 100.000km. Buy at least 1,6 petrol or 2.0 Diesel.

Good luck !

Adrian.

New cars (of up to nine seats, and including camper vans, but excluding hire cars and driving school cars) are due a first test four years after matriculation, and must subsequently be tested every two years until the car is ten years old. After that, the car must be tested annually.

Ah! Thanks for that clarification Jim :-)

I bought an old banger... so the 'every year' is correct then ;-)
