If taking out car insurance in Spain do you need proof of no claims bonus from UK. I disposed of all my paperwork as I wasnt going to get a car.

No claims proof is not so important., However there are considerable differences and you should obtain at least 3 or 4 estimates, or refer to an insurance broker (corredor de seguros, NOT agent).
