Hi everyone

We came over in August had a couple of issues with our accommodation but managed to get through for the week. What I was so pleased with was the reply’s I received from this site and advise given, many thanks.

Anyhow we found los Altos to be a chilled and a comfortable place to settle and as such we have decided to take those steps and look at moving.

We will be putting our property (love shack) on the market within the next couple of months. We intend to rent initially.

So my question would be what steps would you advise before we moved over.

Many Thanks

Hi,

To move to Spain permanently you will need to apply for a visa from the Spanish consulate while you are still living in the UK. You will need to apply for a visa to suit your needs, either a non lucrative visa which you will not be allowed to work.  A work visa will need to be sponsored by an employer.

You will need to meet the income and healthcare requirements for all your family. The income requirements for the first person is around €28,000 per annum plus €6,500 for each additional person in the family. You will need full private healthcare paid for a full year for each family member.

Here are a list of visas:

If you hold an Irish or EU passport then some of those rules above do not apply.

Steve.

If you can get an NLV check the situation with Capital Gains tax on the sale of your UK property. There is no CGT on the sale of your main home if you are a UK tax payer but if you move to Spain in the first 6 months of the year you will become a Spanish taxpayer for the whole of that year ( 1st Jan to 31st December) and CGT is payable.
