Hi, we purchased apartment in Los Altos in September which we visited and locked up. By end of December we visited again and there was mould on Settee and bed sheets does anyone else have this problem or advice?. The area has lots of locked up apartments so we cant be only ones with this problem.

When we leave we put tubs of salt or the dehumidifier granuals that you can get from the chinese bazaars. We have a top floor apartment so we leave the windows open slightly, you can’t see that they are slightly ajar as the blinds are closed. We’ve never had any problems with mould. The containers with the salt in are usually full of water, due to the humidity.

thank you for reply we have left dehumidifiers this time so will have to see what happens next time, we are on first floor but was a bit worried about leaving windows slighty open as will not be visiting again until end of march. Apartment is also north facing so doesn't get sun on it.

We are also North facing and can be away for 6 months or so. We also leave the internal doors open for each room. Most of our friends who do lock up & leave also leave their windows slightly open. All our windows have grills & persianas. We’ve been doing this for around 12 years. Hope you can resolve the problem.

We do the same, leave shutters down but keep windows open slightly, plus de humidifiers from the chino in every room, leave all doors to rooms open. We don’t have any problems after doing this,  even leave the wardrobe doors open slightly.

Hi

We were advised to keep all doors open and leave a small tub of cat litter in each room to absorbe humidity-have done this for 18 months now , works perfectly and costs about a Euro for big bag of cat litter!
