Good Morning future Neighbors / Future Friends,

We live in the UK and are purchasing a property in Los Altos. We get the keys mid March. I am looking for some recommendations and advice if anyone can help plesae?

1. What travel / medical insurance should we get? We are planning on visiting on and off throughout the year. We have GHIC cards also

2. The property needs upgrading. Painting inside and out, all the pine on the kitchens, internal doors, door frames, wardrobes plus the bars on the windows.

3. We need someone to replace the kitchen work tops and wall tiles or possibly fit wall paneling in both the kitchen and bathroom

4. Do we need a house alarm /CCTV?

5. Are the window bars a must have or has anyone removed them?

6. Furniture store recommendations

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you

Jill

Hi Jill,

You will get many opinion's on your question below, most will be helpful! I have put my thoughts after your questions.

1. What travel / medical insurance should we get? We are planning on visiting on and off throughout the year. We have GHIC cards also :- Just get a decent yearly holiday insurance through Moneysupermarket or similar.

2. The property needs upgrading. Painting inside and out, all the pine on the kitchens, internal doors, door frames, wardrobes plus the bars on the windows.:- I am sure people nearer you on the forum will be able to suggest a reliable trustworthy tradesperson for this type of work.

3. We need someone to replace the kitchen work tops and wall tiles or possibly fit wall paneling in both the kitchen and bathroom. :-I am sure people nearer you on the forum will be able to suggest a reliable trustworthy tradesperson for this type of work.

4. Do we need a house alarm /CCTV? :- We have a holiday home and we use Wi-Fi CCTV cameras from Amazon You can get them for a £30 each. You cant point them at the street though. You would need to have Wi-Fi at the property all the time for this. Wi-Fi will be in the region of £20 / month to leave on all the time. You can view the cameras on your phone from the UK. You would probably need a good neighbor you could contact as well if required! You can get monitored systems installed that will alert an alarm company or even the police but will probably e about £50 / month I guess. I am sure someone on here will know.

5. Are the window bars a must have or has anyone removed them? :-  For a holiday home I would leave them on but it is not a must.

6. Furniture store recommendations :- We just used IKEA delivery service but there will be loads of local furniture stores that I sure people who know the area will recommend.

Hope this helps, just my opinion's. Others will have there own.

Hi

Congratulations on your purchase

We used Lawrence and Chris from CB property services to paint our house. They did a brilliant job and were trustworthy  tel +34608686283 can do this via whatsapp

We just have Ring cameras in the house but a friend also pops in to check everything is ok. There are keyholding services locally if you wanted your place checking

We bought a lot of our furniture from Conforama in the Boulevard. They have great offers from time to time - not built to last forever mind !  Jysk in Punta Prima  have some lovely nik naks and the big supermarkets and chinese shops will have a good choice in kitchen ware

Good luck in your new place

Hi Jill

Below is what we do re: our holiday home in Punta Prima

1. What travel / medical insurance should we get? We get annual travel insurance. You need to ensure your home insurance covers you for the number of days you plan to be away from UK

2. The property needs upgrading. Painting inside and out, all the pine on the kitchens, internal doors, door frames, wardrobes plus the bars on the windows. We have done all our own painting. The Ferreteria in La Florida is brilliant for advice. They speak English and are extremely helpful

3. We need someone to replace the kitchen work tops and wall tiles or possibly fit wall paneling in both the kitchen and bathroom. We used 'Marmoles Tereul for our worktops. They are absolutely brilliant. You can check them on Facebook or take a look at their website. You can go on their site and actually choose your piece of worktop (granite, porcelaine, etc)

4. Do we need a house alarm /CCTV? We bought 'Tapo' cameras, which they sell at Leroy Merlin, Al Campo, and Media Markt at La Zenia Boulevard. We have an outside and an inside camera, Wifi enabled so we can monitor from UK. Both cameras were less than 70 euros for the 2

5. Are the window bars a must have or has anyone removed them? We prefer to keep ours, even though we don't really like them. If we lived there we probably would have them removed.

6. Furniture store recommendations. There are loads of furniture stores. Al Campo at La Zenia Boulevard were very helpful when we bought our bed from there. Other furniture we  have bought from local second hand shops. If you would like me to show where our local second hand shops are, you only need ask

Sue
