Hi am I the only one that finds this strange and even dangerous?

Why is it that you visit a farmacia and you explain what you think you need and they just give you a medication, quite a powerful one in some cases, without as much as asking about other medications you are taking or if you have a heart problem or diabetes or anything? Have they never heard of anphlaxia? It happened to me yesterday and the medication they gave me interacted with the antibiotics I was taking and cause me no end of discomfort......there may be one qualified pharmacist in the shop that you never see and basic sales staff whom I don't suspect are qualified to do anything except make sure they sell you the most expensive product even when there is a cheaper version which works equally as well.

While I don't wholly condone the over the counter sale of prescription medicines surely it's irresponsible of you to self medicate like that, did you self medicate the antibiotics too?

You appear to be resident so why didn't you use whatever medical cover you must have to get a proper diagnosis and prescription?

There are correct and safe ways to procure medicines, if you choose to go 'off piste' then I'm sorry but the consequences are entirely down to you alone.

I am gobsmacked by your totally unhelpful reply and no I did not self medicate I was given the antibiotics by my oncologist who is treating my bowl cancer.......I had bad diarrhoea as a result of the antibiotics, which I was trying not to discuss with the world,  this caused haemorrhoids and I was given some supositories which were also a laxative and made me really ill  ........why wasn't my reasons discussed so I could get the correct medication and not have to wait 2 weeks for a doctors appointment! There you have it the full embarrassing story.........maybe you should get a job in a farmacia as you appear to know it all without asking questions......or maybe when you are 70 like me you will know a bit more about people that don't know it all.....

Did you tell the person serving you about the other medication you are taking and the effect it had?

I would have taken a translator with me to explain in full.

Hello

Surely if you choose to buy medication without  it being prescribed by a Dr. the onus is on you to tell  the farmacist what you already take to avoid reactions.

It's helpful in some situations to buy minor meds over the counter .I know which antibiotics /antinflamatories I can/can't take with my blood thinners ,because I asked at the hospital years ago - you have to take some responsibilty for your own health &, and as Steve said take a translator if you can't explain in Spanish.

You often complain about every aspect of the Spanish health service & in most caes a  regular translator could solve  some of these issues for you..... Age isn't an issue--I am older than you.

Hello

I  thought I had replied to you once about an unsatisfactory hospital stay---- but if that is the case I apologise.

Sorry to hear about your ailments but it's still no excuse for self medicating, in fact given what you've now said even less so!
And BTW I'm a fair bit older than you.
