I received the following by email today from a estate agent based in Villamartin, if correct then it will make purchasing easier for UK citizens buying in Orehuela Costa, Torreveija and San Miguel de Salinas

===============

As of the 2nd of July 2021, British nationals purchasing a property in Orihuela Costa, Torrevieja and San Miguel de Salinas, will no longer need a military certificate. This was a legal requirement after the Brexit transition period ended on the 1st of January 2021.

What does this mean for British nationals looking to purchase in Orihuela Costa, Torrevieja or San Miguel de Salinas?

1) Quicker completion times, as it was before the United Kingdom formally left the European Union, at the end of the transition period.

2) Less paperwork needed. You will no longer need to apply for a criminal record check and translate it into Spanish by a sworn translator. Saving time and money.

Which areas no longer require the military certificate?

All urban properties registered in the land registries of Orihuela and Torrevieja. This includes areas such as VillamartinPlaya Flamenca, Cabo Roig, La Zenia, Punta Prima, Campoamor, La Regia, La Florida, Los Dolses, San Miguel de Salinas, Torrevieja

If you would like to know if a specific area requires a military certificate, please contact us.

Has anyone seen these changes reported anywhere else?

Hi aitch

This doesn’t affect me, however I’ve seen one or two posters just recently for whom this will be fantastic news, if as you say, it’s correct. Anything to make life easier! 🤞🤪🥂

Thanks for the info Aitch

Great news but Gah 🥺 we’ve just jumped through those hoops and our application is in with the military - will speak to the agent and solicitor Monday, perhaps we can move forward earlier than anticipated 🙌

Hi Sheila,

         thanks for confirming that the info from the agent is correct, will speed purchases up for UK citizens buying in those areas.

Rgds,
