Hi there we have been here for 2 months and have our NIEs, Padrons but haven't done anything with our S1s yet because we don't know if we have to do residency first. So any help will be gratefully received. Thanks Sue & Tony

Hi you don't need to do residency first, you will need to arrange your health cover first so you need to take your S1 form to your local INSS office. You can book an appointment online

https://w6.seg-social.es/ProsaInternetAnonimo/OnlineAccess?ARQ.SPM.ACTION=LOGIN&ARQ.SPM.APPTYPE=SERVICE&ARQ.IDAPP=XV106001

Use this link, fill your details in

then chose the option next available appointment (Quiero la primera cita disponible en el centro más próximo a este Código Postal) and put in your postcode

on the next page choose option 1 (Asist. Sanit. Internac.(Desplazamiento extranjero),  Información Prestaciones Asistencia Sanitaria Internacional (normativa internacional, desplazamiento al extranjero, etc.)

The next page gives you the choice of offices and times to choose from

I hope this helps

Hi -

But are the NIE and padron necessary first?

Thanks!

Robert

Hi Robert,

It depends what area you are in. Some town halls say you must have residencia first before the padron while others let you sign on to the padron with out residencia. I can tell you from my personal experience in the villages surrounding Denia I signed on to the padron first then took my padron to the residencia appointment. In this case it is best to check at your local town hall to see what their rules are. But if they let you sign on to the padron before you have residency then I would recommend to do this.

The NIE number can be applied for at the same time you apply for residencia, again from my personal experience when applying for Residencia the NIE number is submitted as well, it is not necessary to do it previously or pay it apart (it is included in the €12 rate)
