Hello

I know I have asked this question before but have now lost all my email log, dont know how that happened, wrong button maybe.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get Residency now that the dreaded Brexit has happened.   My wife and I had full residency from 1 Nov 2016 until 20 Sept 2020 when we made the mistake of cancelling a d returning to NI where we bought a house.    Things have not worked out here a d we miss Spain terribly.  We would like to be residents again, simple as that.      We are Irish (EU) passport holders but live in NI and get our healthcare through NHS.

Any advice on whether we can now get Residency would be much appreciated and a y replies will not be lost this time.

Regards

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

As you've been out of Spain for more than 6 months and formally cancelled your residency, you probably won't be able to resurrect it - but no matter, with Irish passports (you lucky peeps!), you can apply again as EU citizens on the same basis as before.

If you're going to use a gestor to help, it would be worth double-checking whether a renovation is possible - nothing to lose by asking the question.

Kind regards,

Kim

Many thanks Kim.     I'm sure most people have an Irish Granny tucked away somewhere lol        The only thing that worries me is whether we can access healthcare through getting an S1 form.

Hi paddywhack

Judging by the number of people that have recently applied for an Irish passport, you’re probably correct. But not me!!! Can I borrow your granny? 😉🤣🥂

Only if you dig them up lol.      Sadly they dont need passports anymore.  I will contact an agency when I go out there on 23rd July to see what the options are.     One sticking point is pensions.     Whilst my wife and I state pension can be paid directly into Spanish bank, my military pension MUST be paid into a UK one.     As I say will see when I get back out.       Thanks for advice.    Patrick

Hi,

A few of us here in Spain get some of our pensions only paid into a UK bank. We use a transfer company called "Wise" to transfer funds from our UK bank accounts to our Spanish bank accounts. You will find its a very popular company who transfer your money within seconds.

Hi Paddy,

If you paid your NI contributions to the UK, rather than Ireland, I think you need to ask the Overseas Healthcare team whether they're transferable - you can email them at:

[email protected]

I'm not sure I understand what the issue might be with payment of your military pension - my husband's RAF pension is paid into our UK bank account and I use my Wise account (formerly Transferwise) to transfer it to our Spanish bank account.  Wise has an EU IBAN, so there are no fees applied by our Spanish bank and the exchange rate is typically as good as that achieved by the Pensions Service when they transfer your State pensions.

Kind regards,

Kim

Alternatively

Any UK pension could be paid directly into the Wise GB account, it has it's own account number and sort code also GB IBAN.

And then swap the funds into the Wise Euro account, spend the money with the Wise Debit card.

No UK bank account needed by solely using Wise, although I appreciate that some wouldn't want to relinquish their UK account, for others it would work as it's more direct.

Hi Steve

Thanks.   I know what you are saying.     I have used Transferwise before but I read somewhere that to get Residencia then they want to see pensions paid direct to Spanish bank.   This is ok for state pensions but of course military pension must be paid into a UK bank.    Wont know what they accept until I apply though.

Regards

Patrick

Morning Paddy

I may be wrong, but I’m sure that members who have already started/received their NLV reported “bank statements” rather than Spanish bank statements. Might be worth re checking the requirement 🤪🥂
