I am a non-resident and currently bank with Caixabank. With effect from 1 April the bank charges are increasing to €35 per quarter. Given that I use the bank for payment of community fees etc I think that the new charges are quite steep.

I am, therefore, looking to change banks and I should be grateful for advice. My apartment is in Los Montesinos so I would prefer a local bank.

Regards

Hello Maurice,

I am currently in Sabadell Bank and I haven't had any problem personally; however, a lot of people in this forum have been talking about the same amount (or more) of fees being charged quarterly. I do not have any specific recommendation but avoiding this one is something I would consider.

Regards and luck with your search

Most Spanish banks are introducing a service/maintenance charge. The only "free" banking is probably with the internet banking services such as the Transferwise (soon to be Wise) Borderless account. You can set up direct debits and transfer money from a UK account to a Spanish bank account with minimum cost.

I changed our bank from Sabadell in March 2019 to Cajamar bank and haven't paid a cent in fees since then. The account is an online account "weferrent" but there is a english speaking helpline and app is available in english. Their website is in english too. As a non resident you have to go into branch to apply to be a customer then apply with new customer ID with online application. I transferred all my own direct debits direct with companies as we closed Sabadell on opening Cajamar and wanted confirmation they would be continuous. Do yourself a favour get away from Sabadell. Btw may not always have English speakers in branch but we used Google translate and got there without any problems. You must also stress you are non resident and instead of paying Sabadell every 2yrs for non resident certificate the account will be set up from start as non resident and that is the end of that fee grabbing process like Sabadell.

Good luck, we are very happy with them
