Dear Friends,

please can you advise, my wife and I are buying a house in Los Montesinos at the end of next month, we have our NIE appointment booked at the Consulate in Edinburgh so hopefully that’s ok, however we want to buy a new vehicle in the first couple of weeks to make selections in furniture shops and give my wife a guided tour of the area. Our friend has told us tonight that we need a padron from the town hall.

So what do I need to do? What documents do I need to take ?

Many thanks.

Regards,

Stevie

We don’t intend being resident as we are still just 50 and will only be staying for a couple of weeks every couple of months to start with. We are just trying to get things sorted in advance to enable the new car purchase.

For answers to many queries that you will have look at Jim’s Guides on this site.   Also the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain site can have answers to many general queries.   Also have a look at the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain site for general queries and the N332 site for anything to do with driving in Spain.   The latter is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.

I bought my car with a NIE and a passport. That's all that was needed.
