Any advice gratefully received. Aged 63 (64 in Feb, so another couple of years before eligible for state pension),became resident here in March 2019, only income is a Royal Mail pension (NOT a government pension apparently, even though this is now managed via the Cabinet Office since privatisation, paid direct into a Spanish bank, less than €13k pa). No other assets/incomes.

Questions: Do I need to register with the Spanish Tax authorities? If so, how and when? Am I likely to be liable to pay any tax on the sums I have quoted?

I have had a quick peruse of the legendary "Jim's Guides", but would still appreciate further advice.

Saludos - Steve

You're correct in saying that a Post Office pension is taxable in Spain.

You may not need to register with the tax office, as your bank may have done that, or do that, when they submit details of all bank account holders as at the end of this year.

It is mandatory to submit a tax return for your first year of fiscal residence, even if no tax is due.

At your age no tax will be due if your income is below €13115.

Thanks Ray & Jim. I was fairly confident that you both would be on the ball in relation to these matters. The advice is, as I would have expected, excellent, but I do have a few other pertinent questions which I am hoping you could also pass judgement on.

If, as you say, it is possible that my bank will have notified the Tributaria, is there any way of finding out if this is the case? perhaps online? The bank account is a joint account with my wife (58), whose income is considerably less than mine, I assume that this won't make any difference to my personal tax declaration?

If I don't need to need to fill out a tax return (for 2019 in the case of Spain and 2018/19 for the UK) until June 2020, is it possible to provide the Tributaria with details of my income from when I became resident here (March 2019) before then, so that I am ahead of the game, so to speak? Or am I wasting everybody's time by trying to do this? Additionally, does any data (P60's, etc) need to be translated into Spanish and notarised? (A friend suggested that was the case, but I am a bit dubious about this)

Final point (for now at least), didn't Jim produce one of his excellent and detailed guides on this? Had a shufty around the forum but can't seem to locate it, if he did. Can anyone post a link, if it's there and I haven't found it?

Again, many thanks for taking the time to reply.

Saludos, Steve

You'll be on the safe side if you request a certificate of your "datos fiscales" from the Agencia Tributaria. Such document tells ypu what they "know" about you. Be sure you tax return is not for less.

Hi Steve.

It's normally only possible to access your data during the declaration period for the tax return, which I expect to be from mid April to the end of June. If however you get yourself an electronic certificate as per my guide, you can access and, if necessary, modify your data at any time.

When you do a return, you will have to report income for the whole of the calendar year, and also tax deducted in the UK.

The system allows you to enter details for a couple, and it will then give you the option of doing individual or joint returns.

You can't provide income data in advance of doing the declaration.

You don't need to provide translations of any information. That would only be necessary if your tax return was challenged.

Again, thanks to Jim, Ray & Killjoy. I'm going to have a nice brew and trawl through the info now. I'll update this thread on my progress.

Well, that didn't take long! First questions and I'm only on the first page!!

Assuming that I will be opting for the "digital certificate" option to access my tax details, I'm pretty clear on most of it, but do I need to visit a tax office personally to "accredit" myself? Is this a way of proving I am who I am?

I live in Montesinos, is there an office to do this nearby? Torrevieja? Guardamar? Elche?

Sorry! Stow that last request. Just reading another of Jim's Helpful Guides on Electronic Certificates that seems to cover off my questions raised above.

As you were!

An elec cert is easy, Steve, and takes less time to get than it does to read the guide about it. Over the years it's saved me a great deal of time by not having to pay visits to different offices, plus the things it can be used for are increasing all the time.

I'm sure it is Jim. At the moment, I'm struggling to find out where my local office might be, so that I can toddle along and get my code.

In Microsoft Edge and in Firefox I'm still getting the "Flash Version 8 is required for showing this movie!" message on the https://www.accv.es/ciudadanos/puntos-de-registro-de-usuario/ page, meaning I can't access the details of any appropriate offices near to Montesinos (we do have an intermittent SUMA service here in the ayuntamiento, but it would be nice to know if we would be wasting anyone's time beforehand). So, stuck at this point. Any ideas?
