Hello All, just waiting for our smart meter to start communicating with "base" before we can consider changing our contract to this plan. Anyone had experience/changed to this plan? Plusses? Minuses? Comments? All gratefully received, as always. Saludos.

I suggest that once you've got a smart meter, you don't immediately change contracts.

First register with Iberdrola Distribution so you can access your usage hour by hour and do this over a number of days. That should allow you to establish which 8 hours you want to choose to be at the cheaper rate.

Then do some number crunching - which should be fun.

Looking at today's prices:

Plan Noche is 0,069775 €/kWh low, and 0,148533 €/kWh high,

Plan Elige 8 Horas is 0,074613 €/kWh low, and 0,168531 €/kWh high.

As you can see, the 8 hour plan rates are higher than Plan Noche.

Plan Noche gives you 14 hours at the cheap rate, currently 11.00 pm through to 1.00 pm, and in winter from 10.00 pm through to noon.

I've not looked at the 8 hour plan details recently, but when I last did, you could choose either a consecutive 8 hours, or two blocks of 4 hours. However, this may have changed to give you more flexibility.

My tentative conclusion:

Eight hours of your choice at cheap rate may well be offset by the other sixteen hours being at a high rate, and Plan Noche may well work out to be the cheaper option.

Take care not to wear out your calculator!

Hello

We signed up for the 8 hr plan 3 weeks ago so waiting on our bill this month to see the difference. We chose 3pm till 11pm as that is the main time we cook, use washing machine, watch tv,music etc. The night plan is cheaper but we don't use any electricity between those time as either sleeping or out walking. You can change over anytime to other plans if not happy just takes 2 days. We spoke to someone in person in Guardamar very helpful but it is easy to do on line as well. Also please check your bill that they haven't added breakdown cover as they were taking this from us without us knowing when we already have full insurance cover but it was easy to cancel.

Good luck with your decission

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I have assumed a lower rate of payment per KWh to make this worthwhile, but also that all my other charges will remain the same, taxes, fees, etc. Otherwise I wouldn't be making the effort.

I will let you know how I get on (I'm still awaiting my smart meter being activated yet!), but with the caveat that my circumstances might not automatically match yours.

Saludos. Steve

Your usual Platinum-standard reply Jim, much appreciated. Very much keeping all options open here until I can show a worthwhile saving on my bill, so the final result (once I've done a small study of usage AND our smart meter has been activated) might be that we don't use the Choose 8 option after all.

Must just say, the Iberdrola website isn't the most helpful in providing detailed information but the operators serving their Facebook page are VERY helpful and respond very quickly.

Hi Pauline, thanks for the reply, just what I was looking for, a "live" user. Can I ask that you get back to me, via the Forum, once you have your bill? A rough comparison with the Choose 8 and your previous tariff would be very useful I think.

Thanks in anticipation.

Saludos, Steve

Hello again Jim. Iberdrola Distribution very helpful up to the point where they insist on a Spanish mobile number to validate your application for an online account - so, for now, a dead end. No matter, I've plunged in and signed up for the Night Plan which I can do without my smart meter being "live" apparently. It looks very much as though we've moved to monthly billing, so I'll hopefully be able to see a saving for next months bill (April). I'll report back with more findings when I have them.

Saludos, Steve
