Hi

I have just changed to Wise bank, but although Iberdrola have been set up as a direct debit on my account they're not sending the money.

I have had a lengthy conversation with a young lady at Wise & she's telling me that because the monthly payments on utility bills differs that they can't facilitate this, but l have seen on the forum that they can, can anyone shed any light on how you do this or give me an email address to contact someone from the bank who knows what they're on about. TIA

Kenbo

Hi

Not really sure why the lady at Wise would be saying that ? As you correctly point out quite a few of our members pay their direct debits via Wise, me included.

I just gave the Wise IBAN number to all the utilities and waited for it to happen, which it did.

You can see all your direct debits in your Wise account but they do not show up until the first one has been taken with each company.

Also, could you contact Iberdrola to confirm that they have your Wise IBAN number and if so have they requested the money from Wise ?

Ken

PS if you have access to your Iberdrola account online you can usually see the payment method in your account which would confirm a correct set up.

Hi

I completely agree with Kenbo.

The only I thing I can think of is that your electricity may not be provided directly by Iberdrola, but by a third party - check your contract/bill.

eg in my case our provider is "Iberdrola clientes" - which is not the same as "Iberdrola"!

Perhaps this could be causing confusion?

I suggest you confirm who your supplier is and then register on their website, which will show DD details and also  probably allow you to pay online.

Cheers

Steve

Might it be a standing order set up instead of a direct debit in error ?

I was thinking the same, Mags.

A Standing Order is where you ask your bank to make the payment and needs to be the same amount each month; whereas a Direct Debit gives a supplier permission to ask for payment from your bank and the amounts can vary.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi

I don't think Wise support standing orders. In fact it's a long time since I've even heard of anybody using standing orders!

Cheers

20 years of working for one of the big banks , unless things have changed in the last 3 years you could definitely have standing orders set up here . I think international ones stopped a few years ago.
