Does anyone know what car hire companies will rent a car to 70 to 80 year olds at e g alicante airport etc.I understand 70 is max age with some of them which seems very ageist against people with a wealth of wisdom and experience in driving.Thanks.

Just checked with the company we use and they hire to that age group. Fully legal, I highly recommend H & R Car Hire. You can EM [email protected] laying out your needs, or ring on 0044 7824 485925 to speak to him. Steve is a very honest guy and will give you a competitive rate. He uses older cars, but that suits us without the worry of being charged for minor scratches.

Good Morning...

I'm 73 and hire a car from AVIS at Alicante airport. I pay a little bit more initially but the keys are waiting for me with no hassle and no hard sell on insurance etc which makes it cheaper in the long run. I recommend using Full/Full fuel arrangement and fill up on return at Torrelano which is not really out of the way from the airport.

hi harvey23 many thanks.  do you use your own annual multi car hire insurance for excess for multiple hires during the year as i was doing.?sometimes they try to talk you

into taking their excess insurance when you go to pick up the car on arrival i find.i dont mind leaving the refundable 1000 euro with them for the duration usually 2 or 3 weeks.i have had one or 2  small  scrapes over the last 10 years and they deducted 300 each time but it was no big deal as i simply claimed it back from my own annual multi trip insurance.it would have cost a fortune over the last 10 years for multiple hires if i had agreed to take their  5 to 7 euros per day excess ins.  when i arrived at alicante for pickup.regards

Good Morning deskelly48....

I do indeed use excess insurance cover which is a fraction of that that the car hire companies charge. By using Avis, I became a 'preferred customer' which, although I pay a little more for car hire, I get no hassle at the desk and I go straight to the office in the car park. Realistically, I cannot comprehend how the car hire companies can hire out a car for just a few euros per day and for that reason they have to give you a hard time at the desk (including a long wait) to extort money out of you to make up the difference. At the end of the day my car hire costs me much less and what I consider to be a sensible price.            Kind Regards
