Hello all, I'm sure this question has been asked repeatedly but I can't find it, I've had to return to the UK recently and I plan to return to Spain later this month however my healthcare has since expired and I obviously need to renew, before I renew with Salus has anyone any better reccomendations, I'm 66 years old I've considered the Convenio which is now 157 euros a month which wouldn't be bad but I never actually go to the doctors, I've paid over a grand a year and never used it, my wife is 60 years old so the Convenio is only 60 euros a month for her making it 217 a month or 2600 annually, is this about the going rate now for private healthcare and do the private health care companies offer a better service than the Convenio?

The advantage of the Covenio is that I could use the local health centre instead of driving into Elche to Imed if I ever need anything, any thoughts or reccomendations would be appreciated.

Hi Paul,

See if this solution works for you. We have Salus and have been very pleased with them.

At 66 and on a UK pension, I called the Newcastle (check?) department and asked for an S1. They asked various questions, filled out the form and posted it to me here in Spain. We (TFX in Pinoso) processed ir for me and we received a completed form with a bar code on it from Elda INSS, if memory serves me right.

Taking that to your Centro de Salud in Monover (the office is directly in from of the main doors) with TIE and other papers (take the lot), they copied them and issued the SIP card there and then! My wife if younger and gains the same benefits (there is space on the above forms for the second person) so we can both walk into the health centre for treatment and not have to drive to IMED in Elche for simple treatments, brilliant though they are.

I plan to keep the Salus care system for at least another year.

Hope some of this helps & best wishes,

Dave
