Hi everyone,

My name is Lorraine and I will be purchasing a property in Monovar soon. I would love to hear peoples experience of living in the town and also any hints, tips or recommendations for furniture shops etc so we won't be sitting on boxes for too long!

Thanks for your help.

Hi Lorraine, my name is Helen.  We have just bought a place in Monovar and are pretty much in the same position as you - we only have beds!  We are going out there in three weeks time - so I am optimistically hoping that we will be able to find some chairs and a table at least!

From what I can gather, there aren't many British in Monovar, so we are trying to get to grips with Spanish!

Will post any info when I know more.  There isn't much info on this site about Monovar that I can find

I found this yellow pages link which at least gives you an idea of shops in the area - and addresses:

yellowpages.cybo.com/ES/monover   - at least it's a start!!

Hi Lorraine my name is Chelsea I  moved here to Monóvar Three years ago Monóvar is a small town with a few bars and restaurants pharmacy a few shoe shops and food stores......There is not much work here so people either work in Elda, alicante or benidorm. I myself for 1.5 worked in Salou. People are friendly if you try with Spanish. Most people here speak Catalan and Valencia so it can sometimes be hard to make yourselves understood. I still find it hard after 3 years. Monóvar is a family town the  fiestas here are for the children in the day and adults til 6am fiesta in Monovar  is quite a lot they like to fiesta lol. If you need to buy furniture the best places are sax for second hand and elda for new. Most English live in sax or pinoso. If you need any help at all let me know. A big welcome to you and Helen and your family

We've had our place in Monovar for a few years now and will be moving out full time next year, I like the place a lot and find the people really friendly, it takes a bit of getting used to but when you understand how everything works it's great.

Hi Lorraine,

It is very frustrating as to where to meet English speaking people in Monovar to make friends.

You hear English voices in Mercadona and there are quite a lot of Spanish people under  40 who work in the local shops and can speak some English if you ask them. I find everyone in the town very helpful and although we have had our property for 12 years i still find new things on every visit.  I can speak a little Spanish, wish it were more, and if you are renovating or building the people working in the builders yard in Monovar are very good and can speak some English.

There is a secondhand furniture shop in Pinoso.

There is a huge Sunday morning Rastro in Salinas where you can pick up a few bargains, but there is a lot of rubbish there as well.

We use Carrefor in Petrer for its household goods and Crevillente Brico if we need more.

Hope this helps a little

Rita

Hi  Rita,

I have just replied to a post by Monika regarding meeting up for coffee.  We live near the bullring in Monovar and will be out at the end of March - it would be great if we can get as many people as we can to meet up.

Regards, Helen

Hi I have just bought a house in Chinorla.

I will be staying there over the summer with my dog.

Is there any parks that I can let me dog run about in in monovar town area?

I have a bike and trailer for my dog and would like in let her stretch her legs on supermarket trips.

I live near Pinoso but I get lots of furniture at an auction in formentera Del segura.  They can arrange delivery     There is a lovely second hand furniture shop in Pinoso which is easier if you don’t fancy an auction. PM if you want more details.  I have holidayed here for 15 years and have now retired here.
