Almost two decades away. I filled my pool. I only have tap water. It is irrigation water. I have never emptied it apart from top up for discharge & evaporation. At a 2 monthly cost of tap water around 20€. in addition I also have a deposit (rain-fall).
My neighbours have treated tap water, but town water. It was considerable more cost. But again (he thought of a tanker at first) balanced cost against a tanker-delivered for irrigation water was not much different. Therefore he filled with treated town water.
I am not sure (& have never heard of potable water tank been brought in for filling a pool. I can´t see it will be cheaper than treated home tap water. I may be wrong.
An acquaintance used delivered “sea” water (salt pool).
Apart from that, regarding a pool whichever method of filling. It is wet. Pure or not, Accumulates sand & debris from the air.
Jim has some good pointers & tips on keeping the water balanced. Whichever method one chooses(salt water aside). The chemicals will be needed, I have seen no difference in a pool other than treated potable water or irrigation tap water.
