Hi everyone

My parter and I are in Moraira for a look around the area to potentially relocate here later in the year. We are young at heart 50s and wonder if anyone can advise on groups for expats living here? We have friends in Murcia area who are a bit younger (40's) and they tell us they have countless groups in their area but they are also keen on finding out about Moraira.  I understand there is a very active U3A group and wonder if that has an age restriction at all as in UK my friends parents are members so they feel that may not suit them yet albeit they visited and as we do think its beautiful here.

We have spoken to a few people when house hunting  but all of them have been holiday home owners and not residents so any advice much appreciated.

Tina

Hi Tina, your easiest way of finding out about ‘groups’ etc in the first instance is to buy  a copy of the local expat newspaper - Costa Blanca News. It carries pages of info and adverts for all kinds of groups etc, listed by town or general area. It may not be fully comprehensive, but its a start.

Sometimes local Ajuntamientos have small posters and leaflets in their reception areas as do local tourist offices.

Also search on Facebook. Many clubs/groups operate from there and most small towns seem to have a presence, usually run by expats.

I don’t think there’s an ‘age limit’ as such to the U3A groups, but, although I may be very wrong, my impression is that it’s not quite as ‘interesting lecture’ oriented here as in UK and more a social outfit for older people (into which category technically we fall!).

There are all kinds of theatre groups and book clubs and so forth, many of them based in Javea.

Hope this helps

Hi Stephanie

Thanks for getting back to me. I will pick up that paper and in the meantime have looked around the U3A website. Our persuasive friends in Murcia tell us they have a community magazine filled with weekly clubs etc so I guess we just need a bit of time to figure out what's for us as I get the feeling both areas are very different having not visited Murcia/Mazzaron yet. Many thanks for replying.

Hi Tina

I am visiting a friend in El Portet a 10 minute walk from here.  Moraira is just a 20 minute walk.  This is my first visit to this part of Spain and I’ve fallen in love with it! I leave on the 14th June flying back to the UK via Stansted.I hope I might be back here in October/November.  I too would be interested to hear about U3A activities.  I am a new member of the Diss U3A.  Lovely to find this forum !
