Does anyone have recommendation for month long car hire - picking up from Alicante airport?

Yep.
100% split it into two lots of two weeks, as you'll save a fortune. Try smaller stints too. You can save serious money.
Try DoyouSpain.com, but avoid Clickrent and Wheego, as they will almost certainly fleece you for damage you haven't done.
Drivalia have been similar lately, yet I've booked with them again for my trip in 3 weeks time, because I'll take a million photos of the car before I drive it away, so I can prove any damage was already there.
And last, buy an excess insurance policy at home, about £45 a year, so you can resort to that if you can't prove your innocence.
And if you don't want any hint of hassle, just go for a premium package at a minimum twice the price.

Oh. Read the small print, word for word. It's often a condition that you need an international Driver's permit, although I've never been asked for one.
And then, if you are going to split your hire, it's often in the T&C's that you MUST have a flight number.
Wiber is a company that doesn't ask for a flight number and they're currently running some good deals, although you don't say when your trip will be. They can be very expensive most of the time.
The point is, they'll use anything to get out of you getting a cheap deal, so you need to check everything.
Last tip, book early , but pay the extra bit for a booking that allows you to cancel. Prices can swing massively and if you check regularly, you can make even more savings.
Brilliant - many thanks Badger 😊 👍

In addition to the companies Badget mentions also avoid Goldcar like the plague. Look for reviews of any company you decide to use at Alicante airport.
Recommendations on here in the past have been Coys - https://www.coysrent-a-car.com/ Lara - https://laracars.com/ and Magnum - https://magnumrentacar.com/
If you don't take the car hire companies additional insurance (which is generally expensive) make sure to take out car hire excess insurance in the UK (highly recommended). This will give you peace of mind.

Oh, of course, but it usually more than doubles the cost of the rental and if you do choose that route, you can freely use any company at all.
My advice was aimed at cheapskates like me.
Most important, read and understand the T&C's!

Getting car hire excess insrance is not being a cheapskate, it's avoiding being ripped off by excessive additional insurance. I don't hire much now but when I did I always had a annual cover.

You misunderstand. I have annual cover too, but "Just me" was talking about the full insurance the company offers you,
That is really not very good value imo, compared to about £40 a year.

Maybe I worded my post incorrectly but I was agreeing with you.
I always had annual excess insurance when I hired regularly. I now take out a one-off policy when I hire a car as I rarely hire.
