In the past I have met with several unscrupulous car hire companies based at alicante airport. Hidden charges, taking money after return for damage that was not there on car return, threatening/bullying check-in staff (to sell more options), sharp practices in general.

Can anyone recommend a reliable, trustworthy, car hire company at Alicante airport - that wont try to rip me off?

Many thanks

Hi  Jeff

Try  dayanuevacarhire.com  a  small  firm with  Modern reliable  cars not  new Cars

Collection  and Delivery  at Airport  not a problem

Try Magnum or Lara cars

Both meet you at the airport with your car and you drop it back at the airport.

The quoted price is what you will pay, nothing more.

If booking a basic package with some of the bigger Airport firms they will try to add on as much as they can at the desk. Insurance especially. If you don’t take it then they’ll take a very hefty deposit and here lies the problem as some hate giving it all back and mysterious scratches & scuffs appear, sometimes after you’ve already gone home. If you do take out their hefty excess insurance though these little scratches & marks never appear. Smaller firm like Lara, Wiber, Edi, Magnum & the above mentioned Daya Nueva usually have much more reasonable all inc fixed prices. Go for full-full option if possible as if your trip is fairly short you’re unlikely to use a full tank & if travelling at this time of the year there isn’t too many places to drive to anyway.

Hi Jeff

I have just returned back from Spain and we used Centauro Rent a Car who are based in the Airport Terminal. We booked their 'Full' Insurance package which included an additional driver along with Full-Full Fuel policy. We were charged up front for the fuel however within 24 hrs of the cars return to them we were credited back for the fuel onto our Credit Card. I would use them again as the cars are all parked in the Car Park opposite the terminal building, friendly staff, easy check out and check in procedure - all in all a hassle free experience.

Hope this helps.

Try the smaller companies like Lara, Coys, Edi (personally recommend) etc. Generally they give a more personal service, don't have hidden extras and don't hold anything against your credit card. You gave Moraira as your location, there are probably a couple of small Moraira based car hire businesses worth checking out.
