Despite you protestations it's evident from your own words that you did NOT know what you were voting for.

Yes you may have latched onto a few items which irked you personally and influenced your vote to leave but in doing so you spectacularly failed to appreciate the big picture and are now paying the price.
...

...

Schadenfreude indeed then and moaning about it here will garner you very little sympathy, certainly none from me, as ye sow so shall ye reap.

To enlighten your befuddled mind in simple words Schengen is broadly the equivalent of the UK's Border Force and performs the same function in policing and controlling who enters their territory.

Very interesting to learn that they now have had  to resort to a Schengen  system to exercise controls  -  it used to be a simple face- to face single  presentation of one's passport   to a human -  which on my last visit in July still existed.  So here we are again spending money like water with a duplicated system for border controls  -  but this time fortunately not my money.

Judging by the ever increasing numbers of people  sadly risking their lives crossing the ENGLISH channel in rubber boats , surely the money would be better spent   on more effective internal people movements, who mostly  - again sadly - have few resources to financially  contribute to the European ever diminishing resources.

It is as very strange and worrying  new world that has developed in which the UK had little ability to participate in in any meaningful way whist shackled to the inefficient  Brussel's based plutocracy  -   hence we left thank goodness.

We will be in Moraira again in two weeks time mostly to contribute substantially to the local construction industry   -  providing those in Brussels don't try to get their fingers in the pot.    Have a nice day and nice to talk to you    Sir

As Kenneth has said, the 90/180 rule has always been for 3rd country citizens. It makes no difference if you own property or contribute to the economy.

You should lobby the UK MP's as members on a forum can't really do anything about it.

Hello

One of the things you voted for with your decision, was the loss of Freedom of Movement within  the EU ---- hence the restrictions you are now subject  to.

When you (UK) chose to leave the club (EU).... you lost the benefits  of being a member too. (Freedom of EU travel)

Cheers

Elinspain

Hi    You are quite right we were forced to lose the Freedom of Movement ,not as a condition that we sought, but purely I believe out of sheer spite , once  it was realised that the overpaid, overstaffed inefficient Brussels  Gang would not in future be financed in a substantial part by the UK.  I sinscerelt believe that this grossly inefficient bureaucracy will fall apart within the next 5 years with the Netherlands and Poland leading the way

Hi Steve  -   you are quite right as many of the other correspondents have been in their views , but I just can't understand the logic behind Schenegen , restricting   the number of  financially  well funded and legally approved potential visitors .  It just seems to me to be strange and stupid that  people wishing to spend money are  denied the opportunity to do so.  However I have lived most of my 91 years abiding by the old Chinese proverb that  " you learn something from every fool you meet "  - so one day II might get to meet  "Bureaucrat Schenegen "  and be enlightened , yet again !!

I had been minded to completely ignore this ridiculous thread but, when proverbs were mentioned 'there's no fool like an old fool' immeadiatley sprang to mind.

Are you a member of a golf club in Bournemouth? If so, here's a suggestion for you. Pop down there tomorrow and tell the commitee you no longer wish to be a member and you won't be paying any more subs, but you still expect to turn up and enjoy all the membership benefits as normal, because you buy the occasional pint in the bar.

See what they say to you.

Tend to agree, the EUs days are numbered, initially a good idea which has morphed into something else, will be interesting to see how Italy react after their election results, but Poland, Netherlands and Greece have been rumoured to be unhappy with the EU.

Happy days !!!!

Person who voted to become Third Country citizen in the EU wails and moans when EU Country applies Third Country citizen rules to them. But they knew what they were voting for. Aye right.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I think it is wholly wrong to compare the plight of refugees from war torn countries to the South and East of the EU, fleeing for their very lives, to the restrictions now imposed on holiday makers.
