We are in the process of buying a property near Moraira that has a lot of pine trees that cut out the light and are very close to the neighbouring property.  I know they are protected but does anyone know what can be done legally to prune or remove them.  We are happy to have trees - just not that size and quantity.

Hi Cathie,

Welcome to the forum. We are just starting up this website and hopefully will have more members soon to answer questions.

In the meantime I have asked your question on our other forum and one of the answers was to: " Ask at your local town hall".

This does seem to be the best idea. Although the same person said (I'm sure jokingly!?).."or you could do the Spanish thing and just cut them down". Personally I wouldn't do that but possibly a good pruning may be OK, especially as they are affecting the neighbours property and your light.

Are you aware of the Processional Pine Caterpillars? These nest in the Pine Trees seasonally and are a danger to pets and children or anyone with allergies (around Jan to march). You can read about them, and what to do if you see them, here on our sister forum TalkQuesada (click on the link below):

Hope this helps,

Jan

Thanks for the info. We'll contact the town hall as suggested.

Hi Cathie,

Just want to know how you got on with the town hall?

We have a few of the types of pines they plant as wind breaks and would like to do away with them too eventually. It'd be good to read the experience of others and how they got on.
