I would very much appreciate assistance in sourcing a solution to disposing of a live wasp nest which appears to be in the under-build of our swimming pool. Is there an equivalent in Spain of UK Environmental Health? Or can somebody recommend a qualified contractor skilled in pest control?

Many thanks.

Hi, If you search (above on this page "what are you looking for") under "wasps", there is much information which may assist.

Wasp nests in Spain tend to be very small and easily sorted with foams, sprays or powders. They will soon be dying off anyway.

Wasps are a much maligned insect. They will leave you alone if your return the compliment. They will also clear the black flies and similar pests from your plants.

Why do people seek to destroy everything?

I'm afraid my personal experience is that they very much do not leave me alone, hence why I choose to destroy them,  Any nests which don't cause me a problem I leave alone. They will be dying off naturally soon.

Leave it a couple of weeks and they'll be gone. If you desperately need to kill them then Oro cockroach spray is an excellent choice. Spray the nest in the evening when they're all there and they'll be dead in the morning.

But please don't kill them unless you really have to, they'll all die off in a few weeks.

We had a wasp nest in the doorway of our underbuild it was huge and impossible to get in the door, we were stung many times, after many swollen painful stings I had five, we took action. We bought Master Fly QM a large aerosol which you can spray from 4 metros. Killed the wasps instantly with one spray, I know its horrible to kill these creatures but it was necessary as could not hang clothes on washing line or swim in our pool as swarms of them were stinging us.

Hi, wasps are territorial so if you don't destroy/get rid of the nests they will return next year.  You have 2 choices, employ a reputable Company to come and remove the nest (last quote I got was around €150.00) or use any of the products already mentioned.  There is also a cheaper method of spraying the nest with WD40.  The downside is that this will kill the wasps, the upside is that they wont return to rebuild their nest in the same place next year.

If you decide to go down the route of spraying the nest with chemicals, be warned.  You will need to do this early morning at dawn when they are very docile otherwise they will swarm and attack.

Good luck
