I’m looking to buy an older traditional style town house in Tuelada. Advice welcomed if I should arrange for a full structural survey from a reputable surveyor before going ahead on a sale of this type of property please.  Thank you.

Surveys are not the norm in Spain and if you're talking about an older property one would likely scare the living daylights out of you!

It's really 'caveat emptor' or buyer beware.

Hello Rose,

I have used Mark Paddon twice for house surveys. Very professional and thorough. I prefer to know what I’m buying and take into account any potential problems, and costs to sort them out, before making the commitment to buy. Of course the costs of sorting out any problems can be reflected in your offer for the house, if you decide to proceed.

All the best!

Look for a so called "Tasador Judicial" who will look into everything incl. legal status and hidden faults. Cost 400-600 but can be used as proof in a court.

The type of surveys that we would get in the UK when buying dont seem to happen out here.  We didnt get one done.  I dont think most people do, at least I've yet to meet someone who has.

If you do go ahead with one, Colin Orr from Advanced Properties in Moraira is a qualified Surveyor if your looking for one.
