Hi, taking possession of our property in Moraira in May. Been trying to access certain items available in UK, but not for sale in Spain.

I was looking at shipping an electric false flame inset fire (Gazco eReflex 135R) from uk to Moraira as I cannot find it out there. Got a shock as it cost almost as much to buy as to ship.  This item is boxed new and is140cm x 40cm 40cm,suppose I could add to the load, but most other things we can get out there. I know many drive down, we would if had more to bring. If anyone has any advise or suggestions it would be much appreciated.

We have a lot of shopping to do once out there to furnish and light etc the house. I assume Alicante or Benidorm is more varied, larger shopping areas  and more choices than Tuelada? Where would we find the most grouping of stores for household goods and furniture.

Thanks in advance

Doug & Shirley

Hello Doug and Shirley, can I ask if this is going to be your main heating or for back-up heat and effect?
Unless you are able to get a different tariff, many of us are on a standard one introduced last year. It means that from 6 pm to 10 pm it is peak rate and from 10 pm to midnight, the middle rate. The cheaper rate is only available between midnight and 8 am, all weekends and National red days.
There have been various posts on the forum about high electricity bills and how they can be reduced. Spanish villas are notoriously hard to heat although newer ones are better so this is something to consider along with your level of supply as the higher the kw, the more you pay per unit and standing charges. Pellet burners are very popular at the moment although they are not for me.
Sorry I haven't been able to help with your questions, except that you will have to pay import tax.

Thanks for reply, not so concerned with the tarrif as this fire does provide warm air but as we have undefloor heating it wont be used much at all, just the flame effect. As for import duty, surely if buying in uk for own use there would'nt be import duty surely as not selling it?

In terms of stores, I suggest you should drive a little north and take the Denia motorway exit. Right there at Ondara is the Portal de la Marina shopping mall and retail park with all kinds of stores. A few kilometres away on the main road into Denia is a vast range of stores on either side of the road as you hit the town's outskirts.

Hi there I’ve heard a lot of stories now about how much things are to ship ! But there are lots of good home stores fairly close to Moraira. Maisons du Monde is excellent similar to Next standard. They have a large showroom in Valencia and a smaller one just outside Alicante. Casa is also a home chain. They have a small outlet near Alicante on same retail park as Maisons du Monde. There is also IKEA in both Alicante and Valencia   For diy if needed Leroy Merlin is similar to b&q   Closer to home on Teulada trading estate there is a Brico (diy store ) plus a very large home furniture store (can’t remember the name but it’s huge ) also Donaco across the room does furniture. For appliances try Electricos Domesticos Pineda (in Moraira ). Finally for smaller items eg mirrors coasters etc Sumnerhouse in Moraira is a lovely shop. There are also some home stores at the big mall in Ondars. Hope that helps a bit !  And congratulations on your choice we love our holiday home in Moraira it’s a great place !

Teulada is furniture town. Several very high quality furnishing specialists there, as well as some who are more budget conscious.

Just outside Benitachell on the Javea road is Devygar, a large furniture emporium, catering for upmarket and more reasonable options.

Benissa has Muebles Martínez, very long established family company, selling nearly everything.

Or there is IKEA of corse, roughly an hour up the m/way at Alfafar just outskirts Valencia.
