Hi guys

I’ve had something of a surprise when checking my bank a/c in that an extremely large amount has been debited by CEPSA. I’ve not been in Spain since the end of January therefore, unless there is some charge that I’m not aware of, it can’t possibly be correct.

My first thought was to create an online account, allowing me to check my bill. They have an excellent site in English (sorry, my Spanish is not up to this sort of task). Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to allow for a U.K. phone number and as it’s mandatory, it isn’t allowing me to register.

Next stop, chat line with a request to chat in English - not possible at this time.

Next an email, detailing the problem I was having, along with passport number etc. A very quick response from CEPSA; Estimado/a... but it’s the previous owners name, saying, i think, that there is already an account in his name.

I’m not sure how the account appears to still be in the previous owners name given that the payment comes out of my bank, but really that’s not my worry at the moment; I’ll sort it later.

I then resorted to the good old telephone, however, no one is available to help

Im sure if I could put a Spanish phone number it would allow me to create an account

Any helpful ideas would be much appreciated

Did your solicitor deal with the transfer of utilities when you purchased? On the face of it it seems the account is still in the previous owners name and if you have been paying, who are they to query it? I would get in touch with whoever charged you for this service and ask them to sort it out.

Hi Cheryl

Many thanks for the response. I would agree, however it’s three years since we bought this house, we’ve had a five year inspection and signed a contract with CEPSA. Our bank account is debited bi monthly so I can only assume it was done as expected at the point of purchase and this is a glitch.

Kind regards

Hi Ray

Thanks for the response

It’s Banco Sabadell and I did attempt to look at the factura today. While I don’t remember exactly what the online message said, it didn’t allow me access (not on this occasion, but on others it’s worked fine). Please see my reply to Cheryl and if you’ve further advice I’d welcome it. On the rather automated response online today it gave a number, I think the a/c number, so I have that. I think my anxiety is - might  there be a leak?

Hi Ange,

The phone number convention for Moraira is (00 34) 865 *** ***, so you could try selecting the last 6 digits at random and see if that allows you to create an account?  So long as the number is 9 digits and starts with 865, I'd be surprised if CEPSA's system was sufficiently sophisticated to know whether the number is accurate.  Worth a try?

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim, nice to hear from you! Thank you. I will try that. I’ve managed to get a dialogue going with CEPSA and raised this with them; we’ll see what their explanation is. 🤪🥂
