Yes, Allan and Pauline Savage, are you one too? No relation that I know of. Yes I do look at all those areas as they are all local to us.

Regards

Pauline.

Well Allan and Pauline, clearly you can't leave now ... ;-)

Yes, another Savage. Julie and David as you can probably guess. My folks are from Suffolk, Aldeburgh, Snape and Blaxhall. Irony. I used to work and still keep in touch with a Nikki Savage, whose family were market gardeners in Hampshire originally. She has moved further North - Lincolnshire / Notts area. Not related but still surprising as it isn't a v common name.

Best wishes,

Dave

Hi Dave and Julie,

Allans relatives all come from Warrington and he doesn't know of any further afield. Not common, but surprising how it can be mistaken. For over 10years we were Sausage with our electric company, several years with our water company Sauvage (liked that one) sounded so french!. And of course when the children were young we were just "The Savages" at no ?.

Small world eh? Btw we,re not leaving the forum, lose out on too much information thats free(about only thing in Spain that is.

Regards

Pauline.

Dave, we were never leaving anyway, that was Steffa in Moraira.

Because of the invaluable info here(and on Costa Calida forum, cos I,m halfway between Villena and Caudete) we will not be leaving Uk either. Had 2nd home 14years but staying as non residents, but live 6 months in each. Best of both worlds!

Regards

Pauline.

Hi Pauline. Whoops, I need to pay more attention to 'quoted by' and the original posting, lo siento!

I can quite understand the appeal of 6 months, or 90 in every 180 in both countries if that is still the baseline, especially when the UK summers are at their best. Do things change very much after the end of the year, or will you need TIEs?

Ours is more of a lift-and-shift plan, childer have left home and we may see more of them out there.

Kind regards,

D

No problemo, it was funny cos I kept thinking"where am I supposed to be going?" Then it dawned on me.

We had hoped to retire here (we,re here at present) but we still have our home of 40yrs(big profit) not even on market, own and rent another house out in Uk, have good savings(tax free interest), dont pay tax at all, and basically we,d pay lot more tax and CGT too high to get residencia this year as even if sold by Dec, we,d have put in over 183 days here if we returned to do the TIE. So cant afford to sell same year for CGT. We need to refurbish home and as we,re in our 70,s (hubby 77) too late for us. Hubby not so good in walking and our house here in campo, inaccessible if we couldnt drive. My son,s disabled so couldnt come and feel we need to keep all ties to Uk. We will refurb home in our 90days at home as we need to downsize, and holiday 90days here. This is first July here and we,re staying August and we dont like the heat. Well that is to say you cant do any work in it. Live in the pool. I love our life in Uk and so long as we can afford to keep 2 homes ongoing with 3 cars and a van we,re ok. Couldnt give up our rights to NHS in Uk either, anyway maybe Spain will come up with a plan to increase the 90days without residency. Who knows??

Regards

Pauline.

Well folks, after long discussions and much research into all the detailed requirements of a permanent move to Costa Blanca ( much of it thanks to this brilliant forum) it looks like our dream may well becoming to an end!! With no end in site to this vile COVID 19, governmental enforced travel restrictions, uncertain financial requirements from Jan 2021, it would seem that owning our own home and a permanent move to beautiful Spain Is being put beyond our reach!! We have looked forward for many years of retiring to Spain but just as our time arrives everything has been turned upside down with uncertainty!! It’s truly heartbreaking not being able to visit, purchase, move over, through total lack of certainty and the innumerable bureaucratic  hoops to jump through!! It has left us worn out.

Please let me thank you all for making this forum so accessible. We will still enjoy reading all your valuable comments for the foreseeable future just in case by some miracle things change and our retirement dreams can be resurrected👏👏

Dont give up hope, our decisions have been made on many factors and if its only covid stopping you, that not enough. This morning we got a video call from an old friend who has been living in Bulgaria for 6yrs. I knew from his facebook profile he had just bought in Portugal. They wanted a change of weather(40 in summer, -20 in winter)and scenery. Researched internet, kept coming back to 1 house, after deciding inland Portugal suited them weatherwise, 30 average now and -3 in winter at worst in mountains. Cos he had 2 large dogs he couldnt leave for a buying trip, he took a chance, got all particulars and gave power of attorney and bought it. He left Bulgaria last week, took 4 days travelling and has the most gorgeous granite stone, large well maintained house in the country with 3 acres needing loads of work only on outside land as overgrown for 170k€. He,s left residency to his solicitor, who is getting him registered as new occupant but may not have residency by Dec but not bothered as has till June to complete that as there is huge backlog at Notaries. So unseen he did it. You can still have your dreams if you really want it. Rent first, give you time to search and buy later, get established at being in Spain by Dec or TIE,s may come quicker than published so you can get driving licences done too. Our decision is based on our ages, our experiences, (most not good in Spain), but yours only based on thoughts! Put your thoughts into reality if you really want it to happen.

Regards

Pauline.

Thanks for your encouragement paulsav, it just seems that whichever way we turn there’s another obstacle to try to get past!! The annoying thing is we have ready made buyers for our house and would really like to come over for at least a month to find somewhere we really like; but all the current restrictions ie lack of travel/ health insurance if we come out against Uk government advice etc prevents us from doing this!! Altogether a complete nightmare!

Oh!! but buyers are a godsend, get your house sold asap, rent in Uk if you have to, stay with family if you have to, live in a caravan if need be, put stuff in storage, but get it sold ready to come over. Rent in Spain, dont put yourself under pressure to buy in haste. You,ll have money to get a rent contract, its not wasted money if it helps you get the right house in the right place later. Nothing worth having in life comes easy, you got to make it happen. You are starting out late in the day but its not impossible. Where there,s a will, there will be a way.

Regards

Pauline.
