Hi,
We are on Bonalba Golf, Mutxamel and our gas is supplied by Natural GasRedes but it's LPG !! not bottled but mains supplied.

We have been due a compulsory 5 year gas inspection since last year but as non residents we only saw the notices in our post box after the date had passed.!!!

In February this year, after not receiving any gas bills for months( another story) I started contacting NGR to arrange for the gas inspection. They gave a date of July 31st to be carried out by Tradivel between 9-11am. We arranged for our friends to be there but the guy turned up at 8.30 and claimed he was refused access. We then arranged for another date of Sept 2nd between 12-2pm whilst we were at our house and we had an email at 1pm saying we had agreed to change the date to 11th November!!!

Phone calls to NGR were useless and I tried desperately to rearrange another date whilst we are at our property but without success. She also said if I employed another certified company to carry out the test it would not be accepted. Phone calls to Tradivel are not answered and also my email to them has not been answered.

Any ideas what I can do. So frustrated that such a simple thing can't be organised especially for safety sake.

These gas inspection companies are very hit and miss. We are with IBERDROLA for gas and paid extra for a gas maintenance contract. 2 years ago we had an inspection which went smoothly as we happened to be in the property at the time (we are not permanent residents). Last year, we were contacted by Tradivel to arrange an inspection. They refused to contact me unless I had a Spanish number. I didn’t have one, so I bought a pay as you go cheap mobile. This didn’t seem to work as they hung up each time they called. Eventually they agreed a visit via email after previously refusing to do so by that method. The visit went ok.

This year, I was sent an email saying I was due a 5 year inspection (news to me) and given a date and time when we were not in Spain. I replied saying that was no good there’d be no one in the property. A week after the appointment I was sent a certificate to say the inspection was successful! Ok, they could have inspected the meter box outside, but nothing in the property.

If I were you id just ignore the requests if you can’t be there, they’ll get fed up and give you a certificate anyway!

Hi Ernie,

Thanks for your reply with your experiences. It's all a joke. We've owned this property since 2006 and had regular boiler service with Repsol until they sold it to GasRedes. Like you it's our Spanish Holiday Home used about 8 weeks in a year (avg) so the boiler shouldn't be worn out yet!!! However I like to be safe and  the gas inspection is a good idea. We can't have the boiler serviced any more because spare parts are no longer available. We've been here for the last 3 weeks and it performs perfectly.

Finally during the near 20 years I haven't ever had a certificate!!!

Thanks Again Brian
