Paying for Car Road Tax

Hi,

   you can pay your tax online at www.suma.es - there is a option to select a english language version, plus they have a chat channel,  contact telephone numbers are on the website also. I'm not sure how you pay for backdated tax but I expect they can advise, must be quite common over the past couple of years.

This allows you to check the status of your car tax, you need to input your NIE number and the car reg.

Any unpaid/backdated taxes are handled by the council dept. "Tributos", where it is advisable to enquire to avoid late fees and possible fines.

is this just for alicante province? we are in valencia province so the 'check car tax' option does not recognise out details. We pay by DD, but dont' receive an invoice, reminder or anything. 

Sorry, I don't know if the link only works for Alicante, it worked for me but I live in Alicante region (Orihuela Costa).

  If you pay by direct debit then it is automatic and you should be able to see the payment going out of your account? My payment at the moment is not direct debit and from memory the invoice comes around April.

 You could try ringing the Suma office or using the chat channel option and ask them.

This year I changed from paying my car tax in an Andalucian town in May, to Oliva, so due in September.

Yes we had to go there once we'd registered our car on spanish plates. We had been before for the IBI and basura. My spanish is limited, but they are very friendly and helpful. They set up dd for all ibi etc so we didn't have to worry about sorting it each year.
