Will we find a property self contained i.e. Perhaps a finca bit still'close to amenities?

Have you done any online research?

There are several property portals and then the local agents themselves. This should give at least initial answers to your question and you can then access the wealth of knowledge  on here for more specific queries.

Please don't be under the illusion that I am being unhelpful, it's just that with such a general question you are likely to get general answers which might not be of much help

I really appreciate your answer, I actually wrote a long and detailed post last night which for some reason didn't seem to appear, so rather lost the will etc this morning!

We are looking at properties and have registered but to be honest are trying more to get an idea of locations.I got the impression that Oliva was a small child place until I saw a picture,so it probably isn't for us anyway.

We want a village or small town location if you know of any! Thank you again.

Google is your friend!!!!!

Oliva is a working town and thus busy at times. It has a distinct and separate beach area with basic, seasonal, facilities.

There are many small towns and villages in the vicinity, most with similar facilities.

Have you visited the area? Do you know any of the surrounding towns?

Spend a couple of hours with Google and Street view, that will give an idea, although bear in mind that some images are several years old. Then start with the specifics.

Good luck

Oliva is a really nice busy Spanish working town, with great beaches. The area inland from Oliva is VERY affordable and there are lots of lovely traditional Spanish villages with something for everyone. Oliva has lots of expats, most villages seem to have a scattering of English people and the Spanish people are lovely and friendly. I would suggest a holiday in the area, with a car so that you can explore. If you can, stay in the type of  house and location that you are thinking of buying in, to truly experience the positives and negatives. For example, think carefully about cutting yourself off somewhere remote, it is much easier to make friends if you are living in or close to a village or small town, where you can walk into the village everyday to buy bread and have coffee.

To find local estate agents try searching both using 'for sale' but also 'se vende' and the town you are interested in to bring up Spanish sites. (Large sites include idealista.com, thinkspain.com and fotocasa.es as well as more familiar ones such as rightmove.co.uk and kyero.com). All the best

Thank you so much, we are trying at the moment to identify areas to visit, I was very put off by the picture of Olivia which didn't seem to match the discussions on the forum, We are getting some properties through from Rightmove and Kyero but without knowing the ares it's difficult of course. Currently living in rural Brittany we want less remote but not too much! A village location I think would suit us, we are not rushing and aim to visit later in the year, we have to sell our French home first in any case.

Thank you.

Use your time between now and your visit to hammer away at the keyboard and find out what you can, that way you can focus your time here as it will go past in a blur.

Anything you want to know about the area in general or individual towns which might help your decision making just ask away. Where in Brittany are you ?

We are in Finistère near Morlaix, it's beautiful but we have massive gardens and land to look after and are getting older!
