Hi Linda,
The "Carta de Invitacion" is one requirement that Spanish border control can ask for, but currently it is not being enforced. Advice from the British Embassy is that non-resident visitors to Spain must have a return ticket and proof of sufficient funds to finance the duration of their trip - with both of these, border control are unlikely to have reason to ask for an invitation letter.
Your visitors should also check the validity of their passports. They must have at least 6 months left on an adult or child passport to travel to any part of Spain. Some people have been caught out where they renewed their current passport before the previous one expired, and had extra months added to its expiry date. Since Brexit, any extra months on their passport, over 10 years, does not count towards the 6 months needed.
Kind regards,
Kim
