Hi

We are thinking about buying a property in  Ontinyent in the next three to four months. We were just wondering if there were many English residents there and what it is like living there permanently. We would be retiring so with that in mind some information on what kind of activities etc are there for that ex pat age group. Any information would be appreciated.

Rob, we too have a 2nd home in Villena and not many people represent this area on the forum either. We are around 40kms away from Ontinyent although only visited once. I read you are hoping to move permanent in 2021 and hope you realise if you don't apply for residency(TIE) before December 31st you will be paying for private health care for the rest of your lives which as you get older can run into hundreds per month per person. You wouldn't be entitled to a Ehic from January(to use in other countries incl.visits back to UK), nor would you get pension rises in the future. Forgive me if you already know all this but I have friends in similar position, can't move permanent before March 2021 due to work reasons but they are getting their TIE,s now, returning back to Uk(cos they can stay out of Spain 6months (per year) without losing their residency, which allows them to fulfil their work commitments then return to Spain next year permanent. They too thought they would be too late for Dec deadline but after advice have managed to work it so they get the best outcome.

Good luck with everything.

Regards

Yes, Rob, what I have told you is true, if you don't get residency this year, no S1 use for future Spanish healthcare, no Ehic available after Jan 1st, see Gov. UK healthcare. I know pensions only move by pennies but over 20/30 yrs that would be a loss. If you never work in Spain you are not eligible for free Spanish healthcare but can after 1 Yr of residency, join the Convenoio Special but its approx 65€mnth per person upto 65 and 157€ after (that's over 300€ month for a couple at todays price). We are 70/77 and for our own reasons we are not going for residency after intensive researching but you need to ensure you have all info correct. Yes if you, ve a place to sell in Uk you will pay CGT on it as a Spanish resident but depending what amount of profit, how long since purchase etc, also paying income tax in Spain it may still be less than the 4000€yr PHI will cost you from 65 onwards. As you,re under pension ages, you would still be needing PHI for TIE application. A lot to consider, so long as you have all the facts. Do you also know after January if you change your driving licence you will have to sit a Spanish driving test (also in Spanish).

Hi Rob......we're in the process of buying a villa on the outskirts of Otinyent for a second home and should complete in Jan/Feb 2021.

We'll be over fairly regularly from March onwards so if you ever want to meet up with my wife and I for a beer let us know.

All the best.......Bill and Diana
