We need help to identify an area suitable for us

We have Residencia and are temporarily living in our holiday home on the Costa Calida. We want to move to the northern Costa Blanca. We are both retired and ready to buy our permanent home.

Orba seems favourite. Any advice.

Thinking of making Orba our home. Living in our holiday home on Costa Calida. Both retired headteachers with no children. Community matters but want to be in Spain not British enclave. Medical services matter as do all amenities. Ready to purchase but must get it right. Our final move. I speak some Spanish and must improve. Any help appreciated! Big ask but we need help.

I'd suggest you come up here as soon as possible and rent somewhere for a week or so in a few different places.  Rental prices will be very low until the tourists return.  To my mind the main choice will be whether to buy on an urbanisation or not, but from your message it seems like the answer will be not.

We chose Finestrat for the spectacular surrounding mountains and only 40 minutes from the airport.  Also the toll free A7 motorway enables us to reach almost all of the northern Costal Blanca region within an hour's drive .  Orba is certainly a great base for the mountains though the landscape has been sadly disfigured in places by hideous sprawling urbanisations. It would be too far from the airport for us.  Not sure there is much to choose between the various small towns in this area as they all seem to have quite charming old parts, not always obvious when passing through by car.  Perhaps Benissa would be worth a look as it has a good mix of old and new in the town and it will soon have a new bypass for the N332 traffic.

Weather might also be a factor - seems to be a pattern at this time of year of quite frequent cloud and rain in the mountains, while it's sunny near the coast.

Happy to converse with personal message if you want to know more about my local area.

Most of the small towns and villages, even in the Northern Costa Blanca have very large expat populations, both in the towns and the surrounding campo.  You’d have to go a very long way inland these days to find anywhere without foreign areas. Even the most attractive of them usually have some kind of developments on the outskirts. The other factor to bear in mind is that where there are expats there are likely to be services and facilities perhaps not so easily available in more outlying areas

This comment certainly doesn't correspond with my impression after a few months exploring the northern Costa Blanca region.  I'm not sure what a 'foreign area' is, but I don't think Jandaz21 is trying to find anywhere with only native Spanish residents.

There are immigrants of many nationalities living and working in this part of Spain, which is part of its appeal, but even in total they are nowhere near a majority of the population.  This article seems quite well researched and gives some real numbers. https://www.spanishpropertyinsight.com/2019/07/26/british-eu-expats-numbers-in-spain-whats-going-on/ .

Even in small towns and villages there are small supermarkets, cafes and restaurants, bakeries, butchers, fishmongers, banks, pharmacies, tobacconists, lawyers, architects, professional administrators, doctors, dentists, vets, schools, nurseries, car workshops (I'll stop now but haven't even started with local markets), so the rural areas have much better services than you would find in similar places in the UK.  In somewhere like Orba you are within 20 minutes drive of the coast, where you will find every service and supply you could possibly want.

In this instance ‘foreign areas’ is used to designate what are usualky fairly modern urbanisations populated msinly by, agreed, nationalities of all kinds who are foreignrrs and not Spanish. This isn’t meant in a derogatory fashion, but factually

I promise you, where we live, few of these facilities exist in our local village, nor indeed, many of them further inland. They are of course, , all available some kilometres away.
