Hello,
I'm considering a move back over to Spain (Villa Martin etc area) and seeing what potential work there is.
I currently run a successful salon here in the UK and just wondered what the market is over there for the work i do.

5 years owning by business, 8+years experience in the treatments i offer

Acrylic/gel nails, lashes (extentions and lifts), brows and hair extentions - nanos, fusion bonds and tape.

I'd like to stay self employed and carry on doing what i love but in a more happier environment for me :)

Added photos to show the work i'd be offering.

Good idea but you should have a look around and check the possibilities. Spain is different in many ways, and services are not paid as you might be accostumed to. High unemployment is also a con, and then market structures, customer behaviour, and most important customer protection laws should also be taken into consideration. Nevertheless, first of all the aforesaid should be a visit to your nearest Spanish consulate and find out the type of visa you will need.

Yes I'm looking into everything i would need to do to set up, as i say i currently run a business over here so i know its not so simple to just set up and go. I have also lived in the area before so I have some knowledge already of things over there

My question was if there was a market for my business before I make the commitment to move or potentially look at other avenues work wise.

But thank you for your advice.

Hi Tanya,

There would definitely be a market for your type of business in Spain, especially in any region that has a large expat community and, if you speak Spanish, that would extend the potential for your customer base even further.  The technician who does my nails is also a qualified beautician and is fully booked every week.  She used to be on a contract working within a hairdressing salon, but she now works for herself, both from her home salon and also visiting clients in their own homes.  However, Spain's tax regime doesn't exactly incentivise entrepreneurial spirit!  To run her own business, she has become "autónomo" (self-employed), which costs her €294 per month, irrespective of whether she actually earns that much - this is to cover her social security payments for things like State healthcare.  In the first year of setting up your business, I believe this is discounted - it used to be €60 per month, but may have increased, so something you need to check.   Income tax would be payable on top, so you'll also need an accountant to help with your tax submissions.  Having said all that, she is earning a good living and doesn't regret leaving the salon where she previously worked.

Kind regards,

Kim

As many things have changed for those from the U.K. who now wish to move to Spain, it may help you to have a look at the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain website.

Also, if you drive, you should look at the N332 website.   It is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people.
