Hi all,

Had our sabadell bank account since may 2018.  Just received an Annual Summary of chargeable interest, fees and expenses with loan, deposits other services amounts under 'amount charged' sections and 0.00 balances under amounts paid section.

Im a bit confused by this statement as the amounts on it look quite high and I am unsure if these are actual charges and need paying.

Anybody else receive these?

Thanks

Sami

I'm with Sabadell and haven't had this letter. In fact I've been with Sabadell for over 3 years and can honestly say I have never had a letter from them at any time.

Normally they charge fees quarterly. Are you sure it's a demand? They don't normally ask permission!

Im not sure, its strange because a lady on another forum asked the same question as me and i replied stating that Ive never had one and that she should ask in here.... few days later, I had one on the doormat.

Nothings been taken from my account. And I pay a quarterly fee to use the bank account.

Im out on Sunday so will go into the bank, just wondered if anyone else had received one of these.

Thanks anyway

Sami

A friend went into a BBVA bank last week, prompted by me, to ask about charges if his daughter opened a bank account as non-resident, and was told that they don't apply the quarterly charges that Sabadell etc charge. He came away with the clear impression that, apart from a two yearly fee for obtaining a non-resident certificate, then banking would be free, and with no requirement to have a minimum amount paid into the account.

Might be worth checking out.

Hello Jim

I too am with Sabadell and annoyed over their fees for non residents so as now in Spain was about to open online a BBVA account as I too discovered they didnt charge a monthly fee for non residents. However, I read a few days ago that a new decree has just been passed that all banks now have to offer a basic bank account, charging 3€ month allowing upto 10 direct debits per month. Although BBVA would be free (mainly an online banking format) having visited 2 branches in my town of Villena, only the larger branch had 1 english speaking agent and that was the bank manager. As my local Sabadell has several english speaking agents I am going today to now ask our account be transferred to a basic bank account (BBA). It appears the account possibly requires a change of account no. but the decree states the bank see that all direct debits are transferred by them. This info came courtesy of CAB so maybe you would like to look it up on their website. I will report back after I,ve been to the bank as 36€ year will be a good saving on the 140€ as at present.

Kind regards

Pauline.

Hi Pauline, thanks, and it would be nice to know how you get on. Just watch out how many transactions you do, as there's a limit.

Hi Jim

Just read it over again , it doesnt discriminate over non residents, but it does state its for low income account holders and gives examples of income requirements, and income may need proving by Renta declarations which we obviously dont do as Uk tax residents, but I,ll report back!.

Regards

Pauline.

I wait to be convinced Pauline. There's information on the CAB website that isn't actually in the legislation I referred to.
