It was my understanding that if you had your uk pension paid directly here there was not any charges. It is only a small state pension. As you know uk pensions are the lowest of all other eu countries.

It depends on the bank, Janette.
For example, friends of mine who are pensioners and residents, with an account at Sabadell, used to pay no bank charges. However, this changed at the end of last year: Sabadell now charges Eu 60 per year and the only way around this for my friends was to buy another service from Sabadell, i.e. an insurance policy. I'm not a pensioner and so now I have to pay the annual fee.
Kind regards,
Kim

Get you all ways. I will never understand how banks go bust. They are all the same leeches .I would never buy anything thru a bank. Learned my lesson when I lived in uk. Just do not trust them.

And don't forget the multitude of Spanish banks who charge for banking that went/or almost went bust, because of the money they lent to the builder's who went bust during the recession. I know that the bank that I used has been taken over at least twice in the last 15 years and all of them charged for providing a banking service and credit or debit cards. However the bank (Royal Bank of Scotland) which I have used for over 50 years is currently still in existence and providing the same free banking service, without having to purchase insurance or any other service from them, as always. As for the RBS changing its branding, I think that it is the Bank of Scotland which is changing to The Halifax.

I dont have any respect for the HSBC after I was treated. When it was Midland bank it was good.
Like I said I dont trust any of them. I will never understand how such greedy organisations go bust.
