If you have a Satellite system it is at the mercy of the weather, slightest hint of bad weather and the signal will be disrupted, and of course you will need a satellite dish minimum size 1.4m. If you go the IPTV route you will need stable internet for it to work well.
We have both, from a personal perspective I find the IPTV a bit of a faff to use until you get the hang of it. We have a Sky box which picks up the free view channels and this works in exactly the same way as it would in the UK, but of course we can't record.
We have the IPTV system mainly because my husband likes to watch the Sky & BT sports channels. With the IPTV system there are a lot of box sets and all the other Sky channels such as Atlantic, Showcase, Witness etc, plus there is normally 7 day catch-up facility if you miss a programme.
My advice would be to ask to see the systems working and then you can decide which one is for you as these systems are not cheap, and if you need a Satellite dish that cost needs to be factored in. Ultimately it's down to personal choice, one final point we are getting more bad weather here in Spain which as I said will take out the Satellite system, only the other day we had to swap from the satellite system to the IPTV due to bad weather.
We get uk tv through the Internet and have IPTV.
We signed up to a supplier called TVMucho. I get 36 channels and catchup.

For our tvmucho package I pay €48 per annum which is less than €1 a week.
You will need a decent Internet connection to avoid any buffering.
We have used tvmucho for about 3 years and been very happy with the service.

Thought that it would be the case that the channel selection would be very limited. Hubby would definitely miss the sports channels too much.

I've just looked on their website and they now offer 90 channels.
Even at our 36 channels I wouldn't say that it's "very limited". Depends what you want, I don't watch any sports channels unless it's involves snooker or motor bikes! Living here in Benidorm draws us away from the TV anyway ;-)
