I am booked on a flight to return to the UK on 1st March. I am okay to comply with the negative Covid test required on arrival but if it is required to quarantine in a hotel for 10 days at own expense as well, this will be unaffordable. Surely a negative test result provided by UK nationals from Spain should suffice for isolating in one's own home? Any thoughts on this anyone?

Hi val

I didn’t think hotel quarantine would be an option Uk would go for however having just watched news it seems Scotland will be implementing it from all countries(details pending) and labour asking for it so seems it’s now becoming more probable than possible.

Sorry I don’t have better news

Deirdre

It is changing all the time. I do not know what your situation is other then you say you are returning to the UK.  Owing to the fact that travel currently should be only for essential purposes I assume the UK is your registered place of residency.  If this is the case then personally I would return as soon as you are able in order to avoid additional restrictions.  Also with the vaccination process being so good there you would be far better placed to get that protection.  If on the other hand your purpose to return is for a visit only, I personally would not be going.  Whatever you do then I wish you well.

To my mind, you either have to physically quarantine all arrivals or none given the rationale for quarantining in the first place. The virus does not behave in some kind of predictable regimented way and we need to remember that it was brought into each country by just one person. So if there was a Spanish variant which was resistant to the vaccine and someone broke their home quarantine on return to UK, we could be back to square one. I don't like it but I'm following the logic rather than some of the pseudo-medical/scientific/political guff that has characterised the pandemic. Remember the easing of restrictions last summer.....I'm sure most of us wondered why the spread would not simply reignite and of course we were right. And we had the UK government sponsored "eat out to spread it about" scheme. That went well.

The hotel quarantine plans are not in place yet, it’s something that the UK will be enforcing very soon. At this stage it is not every arrival into the country, it’s only for those arriving from any of the countries on the list below at present, whether the more popular European countries willl be added to the list is anybody’s guess?

Current proposed date when this is to commence is 15th February

Angola

Argentina

Bolivia

Botswana

Brazil

Burundi

Cape Verde

Chile

Colombia

Democratic Republic of Congo

Ecuador

Eswatini

French Guiana

Guyana

Lesotho

Malawi

Mauritius

Mozambique

Namibia

Panama

Paraguay

Peru

Portugal (including Madeira and the Azores)

Rwanda

Seychelles

South Africa

Suriname

Tanzania

United Arab Emirates

Uruguay

Venezuela

Zambia

Zimbabwe

Aye...it's easy for Sturgeon to click her Jimmy Choos and say all international flights to the Republic of Scotland will be quarantined.....except there were no international flights to Glasgow or Edinburgh yesterday or today. Wizard of Oz stuff really.

Well, I wish Boris had “clicked” his “Jimmy Choos” a long time ago.  Coo’s tail as usual or is it still his evil herd immunity plan ?

Well it follows that Sturgeon should also have acted a long time ago since she has autonomy over public health measures in Scotland. One of the interesting things in the Nicola good - Boris bad narrative is that she has copied his homework all the way through this pandemic and then tweaked it to look like her own. So UK govt introduces quarantine hotels for red list (arguably too late I'll grant you) and then Sturgeon introduces quarantine hotels for all international flights.  If Boris introduced a 9pm curfew she would introduce an 8pm one. It's pitiful to watch but she's doing well in the polls. I can only assume it's style over substance.

Simple fact is ALL of the U.K. governments have let everyone down , useless at protecting the citizens .  “Lessons will be learned “.  Could write it.

Shock, horror, probe.....politicians of all denominations lie. It's in the job description. Boris is maybe just better at it?
