On Monday evening a friend of mine returned to Edinburgh. She had completed all pre travel paperwork and due to the quarantine restrictions that were imposed from Saturday night expected to have some sort of delay or guidance on her return to the UK. Amazingly she was not stopped, no paperwork was asked for, in fact she breezed through Edinburgh airport and on to her destination without encountering a single check. Can anyone tell me what on earth is actually happening as we are expecting a visit from some of our family but understandably they are reluctant to travel because of the UK government current stance.

"I found it astonishing that if you do pass your paperwork to staff in England airports you can there carry on home ,and you isolation only starts when you get to your address"

And your alternative proposal is........?

And it's UK or British airports BTW not just English.

I haven’t been near an airport in months and like the rest of you expect that quarantining should mean NO ENCOUNTER WITH ANYONE IN THIS COUNTRY. However, that can't happen easily but it could be. The problem arises when people leave their home airport and have to make their way home. Do they travel on public transport? Stop off for fresh food in their local shop? Take the bus to the airport car park?  Probably all of these but the number of people encountered will be minimal and can be tracked. Should we continue with life and be carrying the virus, we would naturally encounter masses of people , day and daily. By being quarantined, less people will become victims to the virus. That’s the idea anyway so let us all do what we are asked and in due course, all will be well... again,I add hopefully.

My wife and me returned to Manchester airport from Alicante last Tuesday and it was horrendous.  Three planes had arrived at approximately the same time and because my phone did not work, it took an hour and 15 minutes to get through the boarder controls. The authorities insisted information was completed electronically. Even those who had completed the electronic form, had two quques to clear, so I would estimate an additional 40 minutes to transit the airport. On arrive in Spain two weeks earlier,  I had completed the required forms at home and printed off the "QR" code and just handed this in, however passenger's who had not, just completed the form that was readily available (with pens) and were cleared in 10 minutes. The Spanish have a much more efficient method of transiting passenger's.

The onus is on you to quarantine. Simple as that.

That said, I am surprised that you didn’t have to complete a form giving your address for the next 2 weeks. The mind boggles!
