My mum in law is travelling to us end Nov. She's an Italian national living in UK traveling on Italian passport in her maiden name  but her NHS covid pass letter is in her married name.

We're trying to find out if this will cause a problem getting her through customs. Embassies are not proving helpful and neither are Ryanair in checking their requirements.

Can anyone please recommend anyone who maybe able to help us find out?

Believe it will it says both names must match so it’s change her passport to her married name

Thank you. It is logical and we do agree. We're getting conflicting information and the embassy are being less than helpful

I was married and living in Italy for many years. I asked the British Embassy to be able to keep my British passport in my maiden name as, in Italy, a woman’s married name would only be used in an official notary document, for example, and it creates a discrepancy for other Italian paperwork that I was entitled to. Such as Identity Card, Health Card, Driving Licence and so on. I have never had any paperwork in my married name.

I would suggest it would be easier to change your mother-in-law’s NHS Covid Certificate. Italian Bureaucracy is less flexible.

Good luck

Thank you for your reply. Very helpful. We have contacted her GP surgery to see if we can change her name with them. The Covid pass letter from the NHS is automatically generated from information GP holds.

Hi Kim

I have travelled to and fro Alicante twice now and have just travelled UK to Macedonia. Both countries  required proof of vaccination. My passport is in my maiden name and covid certificate in married name. I did ask my surgery if the could issue a certificate  in same name as passport but I would have to change my name on my medical records.
so I travelled with the documentation in 2 different names and a copy of my marriage certificate. On each check in they were not interested in my marriage certificate. They checked DOB was the same. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much that's really useful. We have already put the question to her GP & waiting their reply. We have been advised to get the marriage certificate translated into Spanish and stamped.  Problem is my mum in law doesn't read English very well and would struggle with any problems

I never got my marriage certificate translated and as I said they weren’t interested in seeing it anyway. I offered them my driving licence too as that is in the same name as my covid certificate but each time that was waved aside.

That is really useful. A copy of the marriage certificate would be great to have with you, just in case.

Italian and Spanish official paperwork, or legal documents are extremely similar so I don’t think they’d need a translation.

I had a similar problem.  Rather than pay to renew my passport , and lose the remaining years, I just changed my name back on my NHS records which was free easy and quick, so that the names now match.  Maybe this option is available?.
