Hi if I tax my car in England , should I get Spanish car insurance or English , the English quotes are saying that I can only drive it for 90 days in one visit however I need longer any ideas please

Hi depending on your age Saga do a policy for age 50 & over that covers you in the eurozone for 365 days fully comprehensive. They also do a Premier breakdown cover. I’ve seen on here that LV will cover you for 180 days but I don’t know much about their policy as I’ve always been happy with Saga.

You can keep a UK registered car in Spain for up to 6 months. Tax/MOT needs to be current. At 6 months, it needs to be re-registered here or taken out of Spain.

There are UK insurance companies that will permit 6 months in Spain (eg. Saga).

It is usually easy to insure a UK car in Spain (and you can drive it anywhere in the EU ... not sure if/how Brexit will impact this). Spanish companies accept UK no-claims records. I found costs to be comparable with UK insurers.

If you think it likely that you will re-register the car, in Spain, a Spanish insurer may be the way to go.

Depending on how old you Saga do an annual policy. You will also need separate breakdown cover as this is mandatory in Spain and is usually included. You can take out Spanish insurance that should cover you in uk but I would check it out. We have done both ways but now have Saga as they are easier to deal with/understand and there’s not much difference in cost.
